Alright, let us have a game first. I have 3 questions with
pictures. You have to answer what is asked. I will give a
reward to the first participant who will give the correct
answer.

Our topic for today is about “The Family Today”

Speaking about “The Family of Today” I have a video that
I’d like you to watch. This video is about the different
structures of the family that we have today. (The learners will watch the video)
List down all information given in the video that has
relevance to our lesson. Are you ready?

Ok what are the things you listed in your notes? (Students will recite about the things they take

Ok, great! Anyone can give me their insights about the (Students will answer briefly and clearly about the

Correct! By definition, yes, it is the basic unit of our
society. So basically, we have the nuclear family, which
consists of a father, mother and their children.

We also have the extended family, these are the families

where close relatives are living together in a house.
How about the others?
Any idea about the different types of families?
Ok, very good observation.
Ma’am, there are families with 2 parents and
their children come from different parents but
live together in the same household

That is commonly called Stepfamily. Because a mother or

a father decided to remarry after a separation from their
past relationships.
When this so-called decision of remarrying is not being
made, this will lead to what type of family?
Single parenting ma’am.

…. And why do you think this so-called-single parenting

occurred in our society? Anyone from the class? Ma’am, probably due to teenage pregnancy.
Yes, sort of. Another answer please? Ma’am, parent’s separation
Yes, that’s another answer! How about on this side? Ma’am, Single parenting occurs because their
parents are unwed or widowed.
Very well said! Yes mostly the reason of single-
parenthood.
Can you cite more of another family structures shown in
the video? Ma’am, Childless family.

Correct! A childless family are those couples who have no

children by choice or simply they are unable to have
children for some reasons.
Do we still have more types of family based on the video? Ma’am, the Grandparent family.

Correct! This is a family where a child/children are raised

by their grandparents.

Besides the family structures we’ve already discussed, we

also have the evolution of the family in our society today
that leads to more type of family structures.

Can you think of other family structures that we have Ma’am, Foster family.
today due to this evolution? Anyone?!

Correct! Foster families are common in the countries like

US and UK, where parents will play as a temporary role as
a guardian to a child or children.
Any more answers from the class? Ma’am, adoptive family.
Correct! In this case this usually happens when couple
wanted to have a child but due to health reason they
cannot produce one, and decide to adopt.
Now, what is the difference between a foster family and Ma’am, fostering is temporary and adoption is
an adoptive family? permanent.

Did you understand our lesson? Class please understands
that there is nothing wrong with belonging to a family
where only one parent is present or if you are raised by
other people besides your biological parents.
E. APPLICATION:
Now, let’s see if you really understand our lesson. Let’s
have a group activity. Let’s call this group activity as (The learners will do the activity accordingly.)
“Who is in the House”

(The teacher will start the group

activity by dividing the class into 5 Groups. The teacher
will use a Tarpapel. Each group will be given a label for
the type of family asked and attached it to the Tarpapel
in front. The teacher will provide the labels, Tarpapel and
other materials used for the activities.)
