Identify the following

A. Important applications of Derivatives

a. FINDING RATE OF CHANGE OF A QUANTITY
- using the application of derivatives we can find
the approximate change in one quantity with respect to the change in the
other quantity

b. FINDING THE APPROXIMATION VALUE

- Derivative of a function can be used to find the linear
approximation of a function at a given value.

c. FINDING THE EQUATION OF A TANGENT AND NORMAL TO A

CURVE
- The equation of tangent and normal line to a curve of a function
can be calculated by using the derivatives.

d. FINDING MAXIMA AND MINIMA, AND POINT OF INFLECTION

- Application of derivatives is also helpful in finding the maxima,
minima, and point of inflection of a curve.

e. INCREASING AND DECREASING FUNCTIONS

- By using derivatives, we can find out if a function is an increasing
or decreasing function.

B. Absolute Maximum (Minimum) of a function

a. ABSOLUTE (OR GLOBAL) MAXIMUM
-a point where the function obtains its greatest possible value.
b. ABSOLUTE (OR GLOBAL) MINIMUM
-a point where the function obtains its least possible value.

C. Classification of relative extreme values of a function.

a. RELATIVE (OR LOCAL) MAXIMUM
-a point that is higher than the points directly beside it on both sides
b. RELATIVE (OR LOCAL) MINIMUM
-a point that is lower than the points directly beside it on both sides

D. Theorem used to locate possible points (numbers) at which function may

have relative extreme values.
