Patrick's Day (Ireland)
It began as a generally Catholic holiday in honor of Saint Patrick. But, in one thousand nine
hundred three, the Irish government decided to extend pub hours every March 17 as a show
of national exaltation.

1. When is it?
R// St. Patrick's Day is celebrated on March seventeen, not only in Ireland, but in
many parts of the world, and it's not just about drinking beer, but many other
traditions.

2. What does it celebrate?

R// How Saint Patrick is celebrated around the world
Saint Patrick is not just any holiday, and you will find out when you read how this
holiday is celebrated in many places around the world. In fact, it has been celebrated
even outside planet earth. The members of the International Space Station have
winked at this joyous holiday.

It is true that Saint Patrick's Day is historically celebrated in Ireland, but the first big
parade on this day was not long ago. It took place in 1996 in Dublin.nparades
In addition, it is not the only place in the world where they honor the saint with a
parade. Precisely the largest parade in the world on the occasion of Saint Patrick's
Day does not take place in Ireland but in New York, where there are many Irish
emigrants. Each year more than 2 million people attend.

3. How do people celebrate?

R// It is a popular celebration throughout the world, in which it was common to see
people dressed in green, wearing large top hats, carrying three-leaf clovers and
drinking gallons of beer in the streets.

4. Do they eat any special foods?

R// IT IS A GASTRONOMIC (ALSO) PARTY
The tandem formed by Ireland and beer becomes even stronger, if possible, in the
celebrations of March 17, but it is not the only one. And the fact is that in no self-
respecting festival can a good feast of Irish food be missing, which, Far from what
many may think, and given the self-sufficiency of local products from an island full
of resources, it is tremendously delicious. Livestock, agriculture, fishing... Dishes
such as the Irish Stew (a kind of stew with meat, potatoes and vegetables) or the
Seafood Chowder (the traditional fish soup) are part of a gastronomic feast that is
not only drunk, but also chew.
5. Do they wear costumes or put up decorations?
R// Among the most emblematic traditions of this day are the 'obligation' to go
dressed in green or to wear a three-leaf clover pinned to clothing. In addition, of
course, to the popular invitation to drink plenty of Guinness beer.
That's right, the color green and Saint Patrick's Day are inseparable, they go hand in
hand. When you look up you will see that everything is green, people's hair, clothes,
shamrocks, parade cars, even drinks turn green, quite a sight to behold!

6. How are you going to celebrate it next time?

R// If you really want to celebrate Saint Patrick's Day, you probably won't have to
go far. Surely there is an Irish pub near your house that joins the Saint Patrick
celebrations and can serve you a beer, and hopefully even a Guinness.
That, yes, do not forget the fundamentals, go with good friends and share a fun
time. Do not forget to put on some green clothing to match the color of the party.
