Good morning, grade 5.

I’m teacher Dan and I will gonna discuss

the continuation ng discussion niyo kay teacher Angela about sa
Substance and Abuse. Natatandaan niyo pa ba to?
The nature of gateway drugs and the effects of gateway drugs?

Okay very good at natatandaan niyo pa. So before we proceed sa

continuation ng discussion, lets have a quick review muna.
Mabilisang recap lang about this.

(Basahin ang slides)

When we say gateway drugs. These are not drugs na kagaya ng
mga shabu and marijuana. Pero they open up in the body system
to become addictive, and these substance naman are legal to
purchase and use. So hindi sila ipinagbabawal na bilhin at
gamitin.

Next is Caffeine, can you read….. (Corrine)

Caffeine is considered as medicine or drugs na din, because it
wakes up our central nervous system which causes an individual
na maging active. So we found caffeine in coffee, tea, softdrinks,
chocolates and some medicine.
(NEXT SLIDE)

So these are the foods or drinks that are caffeinated. The coffee,
chocolate, tea and softdrinks.
So the amount of caffeine sa mga foods and drinks na to are
varies depending on the brand. Just like milk chocolates, it
contains 18mg of caffeine per 100g. And sa coffee naman ang
strongest type ng coffee is espresso.
And yung tea ay merong 50mg caffeine per cup and sa
softdrinks yung most popular source of caffeine is cola that
contains 30-60mg of caffeine per 330ml.

Next is Tobacco, can you read what is tobacco? ………(Maeve)

Okay thank you.

So you know what is tobacco naman diba? Nakakita naman na
siguro kayo ng tobacco or cigarette? So Tobacco has nicotine,
and it is the most addictive substance na nasa tobacco. Kaya
once you try this, hahanap-hanapin mo na kasi you are already
addicted to it na.

So next is Alcohol. Depressants are drugs used to slow down

body’s functions. And alcohol is isa sa kilala bilang depressant
because it slows down our central nervous system. Sabi dito it
relieves tension, relaxes muscles, and slow down processes like
heart rate and respiration. Kaya pala umiinom ang mga tao kapag
may mga, problema sila. Now we know.

Alcohol is alak, and all different kinds of alcohols na iniinom are

ethanol based. Ethanol is produced by the yeast. The process by
which yeast produces ethanol from sugar is called fermentation.
Yung alak is nakakalasing kaya wag niyo na itry. Okay?
Fermentation- it is a process of converting carbohydrates into acid
or alcohol.

Next is the Effects of Gateway drugs.

Problems that might effect the tobacco users.
The first one is bad breathe, poor complexion, stained teeth and
fingers, increased risk of illness, smelly clothes and hair, and
reduces athletic performance.
So these are the effects of the tobacco, to the users. So once you
use tobacco, ito yung makukuha mo. So if you don’t want to have
these problems, don’t use tobacco or cigarette.

Next is the, Some reasons why people smoke

1. Their curiosity is too strong. So curious sila kung anong lasa ng
tobacco, curious sila kung anong feeling ng may lumalabas na
usok sa ilong at bibig nila. Ganon siguro kaya sila nagssmoke.
Next
2. Others are influenced with their friends, relatives, and peers.
So naiimpluwensyahan lang sila. Thirdd
3. Once the person become addicted, it is difficult for him/her to
stop smoking, even if he/she wants to. Kasi nga addicted na siya,
hahanap-hanapin na ng katawan niya yung tobacco.

Next is yan. Dito na kayo nastop sa discussion, so let us continue

this one.
The harmful chemicals in tobacco smoke.
Can you read what is nicotine….(Jaren)

Okay thank you. So nicotine is the main psychoactive component

ng tobacco. This is the most addictive substance known in the
humankind.
Once na, na inhaled natin to. It is absorb straight sa blood stream
natin where it travels through our body and to our brain. Ito ang
dahilan or this is the reason why your brain wants it again and
again when you smoke. So ito yung nakakaaddict sa cigarette.

Next is Tar. Can you read what is tar?.........(Aero)

Okay thank you. Natry niyo na ba na ilagay yung finger at palm

niyo sa usok ng kandila? Diba when you put your finger or palm
sa usok ng kandila nagkakaroon siya ng black? May dumidikit na
black dun sa finger natin dahil dun sa usok? Parang ganon din
yung tar. Once the tobacco is burned, nagpoproduce siya ng dark
and sticky substance, at yun yung dumidikit sa teeth, fingers
and tongue natin. And specially to our lungs, that’s why when you
are a smoker, yung lungs mo is black. And it can lead you to lung
cancer, emphysema and chronic bronchitis and many more. Kasi
kinocover ng tar ang mga tiny hairs ng lungs.

Next is carbon monoxide. Can read……(Hannah)

So ito yung usok ng sigarilyo. Once you inhaled this carbon
monoxide and it enters to your blood strem, papalitan niya yung
oxygen in our red blood cells ng carbon monoxide. Irereduce niya
ang oxygen sa ating katawan. That’s why nahihirapan tayong
huminga kapag nakakalanghap tayo ng usok ng sigarilyo. So
carbon monoxide is the poisonous chemical gas released from
burning cigarettes.

Next is the long term effects of cigarette smoking.

So according sa World Health Organization, isang tao ang
namamatay every 13 seconds, from tobacco-related diseases. So
imagine 1 person dies every 13 seconds. So in one day there are
lots of people die because of the tobacco.

So long term effects of cigarette smoking. These are the effects or

mga sakit that you will get when you’re smoking. First is stroke,
peptic ulcer, disease of the oral cavity, kasama na dito yung bad
breathe. Nicotine addiction and delayed wound healing, matagal
natutuyo o gumagaling ang sugat mo. Coronary artery disease,
hardening of the arteries, this is caused by plaque na namumuo
dun sa wall ng arteries na nagsusupply ng blood sa heart.
And the last one are the heart and lung disease. So these are the
long term effects of cigarettes smoking in our body and in health.

Next is alcohol. Can you read…..(Raile)

Okay thank you. So alcohol affects sleep and can increase urine
output. The urine output is due to the water in alcoholic
beverages. So when you drink alcohol or alak, oras-oras or every
minute kang umiihi. And this can lead to dehydration kasi
nawawalan ka na ng water sa body mo, kasi ihi ka ng ihi.
Next is several reasons why people choose to drink.
Can you read the first bullet…….. (Mirabelle)

Okay thank you. So kagaya lang din sa tobacco, because of the

curiosity of the people kung ano ang lasa ng alcohol, tinitikman
nila ito and yung iba naman they choose to drink kasi they like the
taste, nasasarapan sila sa alak. Kala yata nila juice.

Next can you read the two bullets yung dalawa……(Joshua)

Okay thank you. Many people choose to drink only kapag may
birthday, kasal or fiesta lang. Dun lang sila umiinom. And other
people drink alcohol naman, kasi it enhance the taste of the food
daw. Sumasarap ang pagkain if umiinom sila ng alcohol.

And the last one is peer pressure, people choose to drink

because of the people sorrounds them, yung pinapainom sila,
niyaya silang uminom kahit ayaw nilang uminom napipilitan
nalang uminom, so that their friends or yung family nila will not
say na KJ sila or what. Kaya dahil din sa peer pressure kaya
umiinom ng alak yung isang tao.

So next, okay wala na pala. Meron ba kayong mga tanong or

clarification about sa topic?
Okay, If you don’t have any questions, that’s all for today. Thank
you for listening Grade 5.
