Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preliminary Activity
1. Prayer
Class, let us all stand and put ourselves
in the Holy presence of the Lord as we
pray.
(The students will stand up and
pray )

Thank you for today. Thank you

for your ways in which you provide
for us all. For your protection and
love we thank you. Help us to
focus our hearts and minds now on
what we are about to learn.

Inspire us by Your Holy Spirit as

we listen and write. Guide us by
your eternal light as we discover
more about the world around us.
We ask all this in the name of
Jesus.
Amen.

2. Greetings

4. Checking of Attendance
Do we have any absentee’s today?
Nobody is absent today. We are all
present.
Very Good!

5. Review

Before we start with our new lesson, let us

have a review of what you have studied
yesterday.

(Teacher will post the activity on board.)

Directions: Find the perimeter of the following

figures.

4 cm
Key to Corrections:
1. 1. P= S x 4
4 X 4 = 16 cm

9 cm
2. 2. P= l + l + w + w
5 cm 5 cm 9 + 9 + 5 + 5 = 28 cm

3. P = a + a + b + b
12 m
= 12 + 12 + 8 + 8 = 40 m
3. 8m
4. P= s + s+ s
= 4 m + 5 m + 3 m = 12 m

4. 4m 5m 5. P = a + b + c + d

in front. (Students’ who wants to answer
will go in front.)

B. MOTIVATION
Class, before we proceed to our lesson, let’s
have first a game. This game is called
“Find me out. I want you to find a word that will
be related to our discussion today.

O T R A S K E D G
P R E B S J U O I
E I C D A L U V V
R A T E I P L X E
A N A F D Q P N N
T G N H T E W R U
I L G S O L V E D
O E L J V U Q Y O
N Z E S Q U A R E

Those who wants to answer, please come here

in front.

Class, what are the words that you found?

Ma’am, square, rectangle, triangle,
asked, operation, given, and solve.

Excellent, those words are related to our topic

for today.

C. Activity

Now, let’s have first an activity. Do you know

what is this ?

Handkerchief ma’am.
What is the shape of this handkerchief?
Ma’am square.
Does it have sides?
Yes ma’am.
REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINESP
KOLEHIYO NG LUNGSOD NG LIPA

Great job!
Handkerchief has different sizes and what you
are going to do is to solve for each sides.
22 cm

20 cm

Okay who wants to solve it ?

(Students raising their hands.)
Yes, Angel.

Okay very good, the handkerchief has a total

sides of 84 cm.

D. Analysis

So class, how did you come up with that

answer?
By adding all the sides’ ma’am.

Great job!
So by adding all the sides we can get the
perimeter of different shapes. And this will be
our discussion for today. Our topic for today is
Solving Routine and None- routine Problems in
Real-Life Situations Involving Perimeter.

E. Abstraction

Problem solving can be classified as routine

and non-routine word problems.

In this lesson you will learn to apply your

knowledge and skills in finding a perimeter of a
polygon by solving routine and non-routine
problems in real-life situation involving
perimeter of squares, rectangles and triangles.
To solve routine problems involving perimeter,
we follow steps in solving word problems.

Let’s recall first the steps in problem solving.

Remember this acronym AGONSA.
 Asked - What is asked?
 Given - What are the given
 Operation - What operation will you use?
 Number Sentence - What is the number
sentence?
 Solve - How is the solution done?
 Answer - What is the answer to the
problem?

Now let’s solve this world problem.

The table cloth of a reading table in your home

has a length of 85 cm and a width of 65 cm.
You want to decorate the table cloth by putting
lace around it. For the edging of the table cloth,
how long of lace is needed?

Asked - the length of the lace needed to

decorate the table cloth.
Given - 85 cm length and 65 cm width.
Operation - addition
Number Sentence - P= 85 cm +85 cm+65
cm +65 cm
Solve - P= 85 cm+85 cm+65 cm +65 cm
P= 300 cm
Answer - You need 300 cm long lace for the
edging of the table cloth.

A soft ball diamond is 25 meters long on each

side. How many meters does a player run if he
makes a homerun?

 A - What is asked? - The total meters of

the area where the player runs.
 G - What are given? - 25 meters
 O - What operation to be use? Addition
 N - What is the number sentence?
P=25 m+ 25m+25m+25
S - How do you solve the number
sentence? P=25 m+ 25m+25m+25 = 100
meters
 A - What is the answer? A player needs
to run 100 meters to get a homerun.

Here’s another example :

A house will be built in a square lot with a
side of 70m. What is the perimeter of the lot?

 A - What is asked? -The perimeter of the

lot.
 G - What are given? - 70 meters
 O - What operation to be use? Addition
or multiplication.
 N - What is the number sentence?
P= 70m+70m+70m+70m
S - How do you solve the number
sentence? P=70m+ 70m+70 m+70m = 280
meters
 A - What is the answer? 280 meters-
perimeter of the lot.

To solve non-routine problems involving

perimeter, you read and analyze the problem
carefully. Tell what is asked and what are
given then use strategies like drawing, picture
using number line, using patterns and many
others. You can be creative in solving non-
routine problems.

Example :
Light posts are placed around a square park.
There are 3 lights post along each side of the
park. If the distance between the light posts is
30 meters, what is the distance around the
park?

What is asked in the problem? The distance

around the park.
What are given? 3 light post along each side
of the park and 30 meters the distance
between the light posts.
How can you solve the problem?

30m 30 m 30 m

30m PARK 30 m

30m 30 m 30m

Solve: By adding the distances between light

posts.
30+30+30+30 +30+30+30+30 = 240 m
By multiplying 30 m by 8.
8x 30 = 240 m
Answer: 240 meters, the distance around the
square park.

Did you understand class?

. Yes ma’am

Do you have any questions or clarifications?

None ma’am

Very good class!

F. Application
To further enhance your knowledge on what
we studied earlier, you will be divided into 4
groups. Each groups will need to answer the
following word problems using AGONSA.

But before we start the activity, let us

First recall the things that you should
remember while doing the activity.
The things to remember while
doing group activity are:
1. Cooperate with your group.
2. Work silently.
3. Respect the opinions of your
group members.

(Students will do the group

Very well said! You may now proceed to your
activity.)

Okay class, based on our discussion what

have you learned today? ( students answer may vary )

What are the steps in solving routine and non-

routine problems involving square, rectangle
and triangle? First thing to do is to understand,
you need to know what is asked in
the problem and after that what are
the given facts. After to understand
the given problem you need to
plan, under the plan, we need to
know what operation will going to
use and then what is the number
sentence. After you understand
and plan. Next thing you do is to
solve the given, you’re going to
solve using the suggested
operation or formula, and after that
state your final answer.

Always remember that in solving routine and

non-routine word problems involving the
perimeter of square, rectangle and triangle
remember those following steps .
