Dryer with C-Tronic
This manual describes the components in connection with using the new C-Tronic.

Basic service instructions for the current dryers in general (from range 1991 on ...) are
contained in those two service manuals, the publication numbers of which are listed in the
lower part of this page.

Use of new electronics in dryers of the ranges from 2001
In the dryers of the new generation from 2001, new electronic modules are used (C-tronic). The
programme switching device of the hybrid technology are dropped.

Now the electronic receives the input signals from a rotary selector switch and from an input/display unit
(display) as well as from the corresponding sensors for monitoring the operating conditions. The funda-
mental technology of the exhaust air resp. condenser dryers has mainly been taken over.

Wiring diagram
This representation has been developed from the circuit diagram and shows wiring and connections,
which are relevant for the service.
With exhaust dryers, condensate pump and float switch are dropped.

A short description and the most important new data of the single components you will find on the
following pages.

Furthermore, the circuit diagram by the manufacturer is included in this manual. The service technician
can decide himself which plan he wants to use for his work.

Conductivity sensor
The conductivity sensor determines the duration of the automatic cycles
by measuring the electrical resistance of the laundry, which in turn
depends on its corresponding moisture. when the fabrics get dryer, also
the conductivity will be reduced.
The measured resistance depends on the drying degree of the laundry and
on the current which is applied to the spikes due to the electronic control
system.
When the drying cycle advances, the resistance at the spikes of the
sensors increases, until the voltage will exceed the switch-off limit, in the
case of which the electronic realizes that a given drying degree (depending
on cycle) has been achieved.

Float switch (only condenser dryers)

The float switch takes on 2 functions:
- As a safety switch it reacts when the condensate is accumulating in
the bottom of the appliance, e.g. after a condensate pump failure or
other leakages.
- As an overflow switch, i.e. when the condensate tank is full, the
condensate flows over and gets into the bottom of the appliance pas
sing the condensate tank chamber through a hose – the float switch
will react.
After draining the condensate tank and switching on again the
appliance, a pumping phase taking several seconds will be caused
automatically. The overflow is drained and the appliance works
again.

Door switch
The door switch functions like in the predecessor models. Now it is
behind the panel and can be reached from the top.
As an alternate action switch it interrupts the power supply of the
appliance when opening the door and switches over to the door light.

>>> Service Manual Dryer

Exchange of components
Publ. 599 512 238

Thermostat
The thermostat is located in the exhaust air with exhaust dryers resp. in
the circulating air with condenser dryers and monitors the air temperature
of these air ways.
Switching temperature:

- Exhaust dryer = 60°C

- Condenser dryer = 72°C

Motor
The structure and seat of the fan motor unit corresponds to the
previous ranges.
With the condenser dryer, the motor, besides the exhaust/
circulating air, also drives the cooling fan of the condenser
(figure).
>>> Service Manual Dryer
Exchange of components
Publ. 599 512 238

Condensate pump
The condensate pump is in the ”swamp of the appliance” (bottom). Due to the
symmetrical arrangement of the pumping blades it sucks in in both rotational
directions and pumps off to the top.
This version can also be found with the previous models.

The thermostat can be exchanged separately. In case of
faulty heating elements or blowout fuses, the complete
unit must be exchanged.

Test routines
Step 0

The dryer must be switched on in the ”light” position. Fins and jacket of the drum must be short-circuited. During
the test the door has to stay closed.

Step 1 – start of the test routine

While keeping the ”gentle” key pressed, the programme selector has to be turned in the positions ”cotton extra
dry” – ”mixed fabrics extra dry” – ”cotton wardrobe dry” one after the other. In every position you have to wait for
at least 0.6 s. When the test routine has been started, the ”drying” LED lights and the drum starts rotating.

Step 2 – selection of actuators

Now the motor is turning alternating in both directions and both heating circuits are active. The option key
”gentle” can be checked, it has its normal function. This step takes 30 s.

Step 3 – moisture detection

Now the short circuit of the ribs and jacket of the drum has to be removed. During this step, the LEDs light up
one after the other.

First, the 200 kÙ branch is checked, the step must come to an end, then the 10 kÙ branch is checked, even
here must the empty drum be detected. If the empty drum is not detected twice, there is a malfunction.

End

After terminating the test routine, the dryer will be switched off (rotary selector to position OFF). With the next
switching on (to position ”light”) the drum will be rotating clockwise for approx. 2s.

Distinction E/C
There is a jumper between the contacts H6.3 and H6.4 in the wiring of the exhaust dryer. When an electronic
”condenser dryer” is built in the exhaust dryer, that is why ”tank full” is indicated. In the reverse case, an alarm
will be indicated when assembling an electronic ”exhaust dryer” into a condenser dryer, because the jumper
does not exist.

Fault display

Faults are only indicated when arising and not stored. Following faults are reported:

1 n/a flashing LEDs: drying

2 n/a flashing LEDs; cooling
3 moisture recording flashing LEDs: drying – cooling
4 n/a flashing LEDs: crinkle protection/end
5 rotary selector flashing LEDs: drying flashing – crinkle protection/end
6 wrong configuration flashing LEDs: cooling – crinkle protection/end
7 checksum error flashing LEDs: drying – cooling – crinkle protection/end

reg. 3) The fault arises, when a moisture-controlled cycle will not end within 3h.

reg. 5) The fault arises, when the ”OFF” position of the rotary selector is detected, but the
dryer was not switched off.

reg. 6) The fault arises, when an electronic for an exhaust dryer is built in a condenser
dryer (with empty tank).

reg.7) programming error
