The power factor is a crucial parameter in electrical systems as it

determines the efficiency of the system. In an AC circuit, the power
factor is defined as the ratio of the real power (P) to the apparent
power (S) and is given by the formula cosθ = P/S. A low power factor
can lead to an increase in the energy consumption, voltage drop, and
a decrease in the efficiency of the system. Three-phase induction
motors are commonly used in industrial applications, and their
power factor can vary depending on the load. The use of adjustable
capacitor banks can help correct the power factor and improve the
efficiency of the system. In this lab report, we will discuss the
correction of the power factor of a three-phase induction motor
operating at varying loads using an adjustable capacitor bank.
This lab is to demonstrate the correction of the power factor of a
three-phase induction motor operating at varying loads using an
adjustable capacitor bank. The experiment aims to show the impact
of the capacitor bank on the power factor of the motor and the
efficiency of the system.
The experimental setup consists of a three-phase induction motor,
an adjustable capacitor bank, a power analyzer, and a load bank. The
power analyzer is used to measure the voltage, current, and power
factor of the system. The load bank is used to vary the load on the
motor, and the adjustable capacitor bank is used to correct the
power factor.
The experiment demonstrates the correction of the power factor of
a three-phase induction motor operating at varying loads using an
adjustable capacitor bank. The use of the capacitor bank helps
improve the power factor and efficiency of the system. The
experiment highlights the importance of maintaining a high power
factor in electrical systems to ensure optimal performance and
efficiency.

Critical analysis :

In this lab , we studied about how to correct the power factor of a three-phase
induction motor which is operating at different variable loads using adjustable
capacitor banks.
The results of the this lab shows that the power factor of the system varies with
the load on the motor. At low loads, the power factor is low, and at high loads, the
power factor is high. The use of the adjustable capacitor bank helps correct the
power factor and improve the efficiency of the system. The efficiency of the system
increases with the correction of the power factor.
