CCTV Camera
CCTV stands for closed-circuit television and is commonly known as video surveillance.
“Closed-circuit” means broadcasts are usually transmitted to a limited (closed) number of
monitors, unlike “regular” TV, which is broadcast to the public at large. CCTV networks are
commonly used to detect and deter criminal activities, and record traffic infractions, but
they have other uses. “Closed-circuit” means broadcasts are usually transmitted to a limited
(closed) number of monitors, unlike “regular” TV, which is broadcast to the public at large.
Working
CCTV works by the camera or cameras taking a constant sequence of images that are then
transmitted by cable or wirelessly (depending on the chosen system type) to the recording device
and then on to the display monitor, which enables an individual to see the sequence of images as
video footage
CCTV cameras broadcast whatever their objectives catch in real-time, either directly to a display or
collection of monitors to which they are linked, or through the Internet to a group of devices
expressly permitted to do so (computers, mobile phones, tablets).
CCTV systems that use analog cameras have been around for years. They are still the most
common type of camera installed in the field. Analog systems include a camera or series of
cameras with a dedicated set of wires fed into a recording device and series of monitors. Video is
recorded and stored on site

CCTV Camera was invented by Walter Bruch in 1927 Walter Bruch

CCTV camera components:
The complete closed circuit TV system (CCTV system) consists of:

● Security Cameras (Analog or Digital Camera)

● Cables (RJ45 or RJ59 Cables)
● Video recorders (DVR or NVR)
● Storage unit – typically Hard disk
● A display unit (Optional, such as a Monitor)
Power Requirements :

● Outdoor security cameras typically use a 12V DC power source, while

Schematic diagram showing the
● PTZ (Pan Tilt Zoom) cameras use a 24V AC power supply. working of a CCTV camera
● Some security cameras may use 220V AC power, and
● Inside security cameras commonly use a 5V DC power supply.
● Power distribution box for installing more than four cameras
The correct way is to multiply the rated power by 1.3 to get the real required power supply for security cameras. You must
also account for cable power usage and power budget.
Applications
● Crime detection and prevention
● Industrial Use
● Traffic use
● Used in schools
● Transport industry
