1. INTRODUCTION

1.1 AIM
The aim of this study was to see how social media affects human behaviour and to provide
advice to young people on how to properly use social media.

The demands of the community in this case, teens cannot be isolated from the use of social
media at this time. Student’s use of social media causes both positive and bad behavioural
effects. This study examines the impact of social networks on adolescent behaviour in terms of
human values. The goal of this study was to see how social media affects human behaviour in
teens. Non-experimental quantitative methods are used in this study. Data from social media
and human behaviour measurement technologies were put to the test on a group of 100 students.
The findings revealed a link between social media and human behaviour in terms of social
characteristics and variety. This suggests that the greater the use of social media by students,
the more influence they have in social activities with people from varied backgrounds.

1.2 ADVANTAGES
Social media has proven to be helpful in the field of education. It fosters learning by bringing
together students and educators from around the world. It also helps to enhance talents by
expanding knowledge and imagination. Using social media, you can keep up with what's going
on in the world or in someone's life.

The best location to share anything you want is on social media. It could be a song, a poem, a
performance piece, a dessert recipe, or something else entirely. It allows a person's creativity to
be enhanced and showcased while also allowing them to reach millions of consumers. People
become more conscious as a result of social media. It functions as a medium of information that
assists people to do innovations and achieve success via the increase of skills and knowledge.
People all across the world are now aware of what is going on because to social media.

Social media has evolved into an effective platform for advertising, allowing firms to better
understand their target audiences' demands. Small and large businesses alike may simply
market their brands on social media and garner a lot of attention. This is extremely beneficial
to businesses of all sizes.

1.3 DISADVANTAGES
Now prefer to spend time alone with just their phones, and need no one to disturb them. We
also use to spend quality time with our family members by sitting together, watching movies
and having meals together. Using something is not bad, but getting addicted to it can be
disastrous. Teenagers Social media has caused distance in relationships by reducing that love
and closeness.

People spend their productive time the whole day on social media. This addiction has ruined
their lives leading to serious issues. It is time to focus on studies, rather than wasting time on
Facebook and Twitter. Addictive children spend hours every day watching movies, images, and
other stuff provided by the accounts they follow on social media.

Finally, the effect of social media has a negative impact on children's well-being. It also has an
impact on their social abilities, as they prefer to converse on the phone rather than face the
person. And can also lead to poor health, weak physique, depression, stress, anxiety, and even
deaths.

2. TYPES OF SOCIAL MEDIA

2.1 FACEBOOK

Facebook is the most recent in a long series of websites that we now refer to as "social
networking." Its popularity, however, sets it apart from the competition. At the time of this
writing, Facebook has over 2.23 billion active users. The website, which began in Mark
Zuckerberg's Harvard dorm room in 2004, is now worth billions of dollars and is one of the
world's most recognisable brands. It's even had a Hollywood makeover, with The Social
Network, a film about the site's creation, released to critical acclaim in 2011. Facebook is a
social networking service that allows users to connect with friends, co-workers, and strangers
online by creating free profiles. Users can share photos, music, movies, and articles, as well as
their own views and opinions, with as many people as they want.

Fig 2.1: Logo of Facebook

Facebook was once the most popular website among young people who grew up with
technology. Many teenagers, on the other hand, are flocking to alternative social media
platforms like Instagram (which is owned by Facebook) and Snapchat.

9|Page
Those that continue to utilise it do so for the sake of social networking. Because teenagers are
great multitaskers, using Facebook, like any other social networking site, is virtually second
nature to them. Young individuals can experiment with who they are by using social networking
platforms. They’re popular because they allow teenagers to express themselves in an
unrestricted manner online, which they may share with their peers. Some teenagers believe that
they may express themselves more freely online than in the actual world because they believe
the virtual world is more secure. Teenagers enjoy Facebook because it allows them to customise
their profiles. Young people today participate in personalising their own online space with
photographs, music, movies, and comments in the same way that previous generations may
have decorated their bedroom walls with posters of their favourite bands or soccer teams.
Communication has also become considerably easier as a result of the site. Rather than dialling
a number to call a friend’s residence, teenagers can use Facebook to contact with them
instantaneously and directly. Even email, a relatively new tool, is of minor importance to
teenagers who communicate mostly through Facebook.

2.2 WHATSAPP
WhatsApp is a free smartphone communication software to download. WhatsApp sends
messages, photos, audio, and video over the internet. The service is quite similar to text
messaging services; but, because WhatsApp sends messages over the internet, it is substantially
less expensive than texting. You may also use WhatsApp on your computer by visiting the
WhatsApp website and downloading the programme for Mac or Windows. Because of features
like group chatting, audio messages, and location sharing, it is very popular among youngsters.

WhatsApp, which is owned by Facebook, currently has one billion users globally and is the
most popular online communication software. Founded in 2009 by ex-Yahoo employees, it
began as a modest start up but quickly grew to 250,000 customers in just a few months, forcing
them to impose a yearly subscription fee to slow down the subscription rate. WhatsApp was
acquired by Facebook in 2014 and has continued to grow, reaching 1 billion users in July 2017.

The features of social media: WhatsApp users may disclose their position in real time through
text messages. They can also use WhatsApp to organise contact lists so that they can rapidly
send messages to large groups of individuals in group conversations. The best benefit of
WhatsApp is that it allows users to communicate with people who live in other countries
without incurring the international text message rates.

2.3 TWITTER

Twitter is a microblogging and social networking website based in the United States that allows
users to send and receive messages known as "tweets." Unregistered users can only read tweets
that are publicly visible, while registered users may write, like, and retweet them. Twitter is
accessed by browser or mobile frontend applications, as well as programmatically through its
APIs. Prior to April 2020, services could only be accessed by SMS. Twitter, Inc., a company
established in San Francisco, California with more than 25 offices around the world, provides
the service. Tweets were initially limited to 140 characters, but in November 2017, the limit
was raised to 280 characters for non-CJK languages.

11 | P a g e
Fig2.3: Logo of Twitter

Most accounts still limit audio and video tweets to 140 seconds. In March 2006, Jack Dorsey,
Noah Glass, Biz Stone, and Evan Williams founded Twitter, which premiered in July of that
year. In 2012, the service processed an average of 1.6 billion search queries per day, with more
than 100 million users posting 340 million tweets each day. It was one of the top ten most-
visited websites in 2013 and has been dubbed "the Internet's SMS." In the first quarter of 2019,
Twitter has over 330 million monthly active users. In practise, a small number of individuals
compose the great majority of tweets.

2.4 YOUTUBE

YouTube is a free website that may be a terrific place for teenagers to find new interests. Many
young people use YouTube to view music videos, comedy programmes, how-to instructions,
recipes, hacks, and other types of content. Teens also use the video-sharing site to subscribe to
other YouTubers and celebrities they are interested in, as well as to follow their favourite
vloggers (video bloggers). Users must be 18 years old or 13 years old with parental approval to
create a YouTube account. Ireland has raised the Digital Age of Consent to 16 years old under
the new EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This implies that in Ireland, young
people under the age of 16 are not permitted to use this site. However, a free YouTube kids
version is now accessible to download.

12 | P a g e
Fig2.4: Logo of YouTube

YouTube Kids is aimed at children aged 3 to 8, and it makes it easier for kids and parents to
locate material that they enjoy. For more information about the YouTube Kids app, go here.
With over a billion users and an estimated 300 hours of video posted every minute, not all of it
is suitable for children. However, you can try to reduce the chances that your child may come
across stuff that is inappropriate for them. If you or your kid sees something that isn't acceptable,
you may report it to YouTube.

Unfortunately, unpleasant comments and bullying can occur on the service, particularly through
the comments feature (YouTube users can comment on other user videos). If your child has a
YouTube channel or profile, you might want to suggest that they turn off comments on their
own profile or channel. This is simple to adjust through settings and helps to reduce the
likelihood of receiving unfavourable feedback. You may ban and report people if your
youngster is being harassed on YouTube. These are the commonly used social medias.

3. METHODOLOGY

A survey method was used to collect data from respondents aged 18 to 25 years old. A total of
100 persons were given questionnaires to complete. The Secondary sources include journals,
books, and websites.

The goal of this study is to determine the impact of social media on adults at GVP College of
Engineering in Vizag. Questionnaires were sent out to a group of students aged 18 to 21 via
social media platforms, WhatsApp, and email.

A total of 60 female and 46 male students between the ages of 18 and 21 make up the sample.
The study also includes a mini-comparison of the frequency with which students use the
following social media platforms: YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

The questionnaires included questions about the positive and negative effects of social media,
the effects of social media on human values, types of social media use, how many hours
candidates spend on social media, which age groups have the most influence over social media,
and how many candidates use the media effectively.

CONCLUSION

Finally, as per the survey and analysis this concept of social media has a great impact on humans
and also usage of this should be limited. Social media will be good to the people if we treat it
in an efficient way and as per the time and knowledge purpose this should be used for the good
way. While coming to the effects this social media usage can cause many bad issues if people
use it as if there is nothing important than using this social media.

People are wasting lots and lots of their valuable time in spending more time with this social
media, as if this is the case the teenagers has to face a lot of problems regarding their health and
their career issues.

People can attain sufficient knowledge if they use it in a good way and wit in the limited time,
they have to put some time limits in using this social media, and they have to spare enough and
sufficient to their career purpose.
