Q1)
Let P(x, y) be any point on the required locus.
Given, A(1, 3), B(2, 1) and PA = PB

∴ PA2 = PB2

∴ (x – 1)2 + ( y – 3)2 = (x – 2)2 + (y – 1)2

∴ x2 – 2x + 1 + y2 – 6y + 9

= x2 – 4x + 4 + y2 – 2y + 1 -2x – 6y + 10
= -4x – 2y + 5

∴ 2x – 4y + 5 = 0

∴ The required equation of locus is 2x – 4y + 5 = 0.

Q2)
Q3)
The equation of a circle with centre at (h, k) and radius ‘r’ is given by
(x – h)2 + (y – k)2 = r2
Here, h = -3, k = -2 and r = 6
∴ The required equation of the circle is

[x – (-3)]2 + [y – (-2)]2 = 62
⇒ (x + 3)2 + (y + 2)2 = 36

⇒ x2 + 6x + 9 + y2 + 4y + 4 – 36 = 0

⇒ x2 + y2 + 6x + 4y – 23 = 0

Q4)
Q5)
f(3) = 8 ….(given)

∴ f(x) is discontinuous at x = 3.

Q6)
Let f(x) = x3 – 3x f(x) is a polynomial function and hence it is continuous for all
x ∈ R.

A root of f(x) exists, if f(x) = 0 for at least one value of x.

f(1) = (1)3 – 3(1) = -2 < 0
f(2) = (2)3 – 3(2) = 2 > 0

∴ f(1) < 0 and f(2) > 0

∴ By intermediate value theorem, there has to be point ‘c’ between 1 and 2

such that f(c) = 0.
There is a root of the given equation between 1 and 2.

Q1)
Given, slope (m) = 2/3 and the line passes through (3, 5).
Equation of the line in slope point form is y-y1 = m(x -x1)

∴The equation of the required line is y – 5 = 2/3 (x-3)

∴ 3 (y – 5) = 2 (x – 3)

∴ 3y – 15 = 2x – 6

∴ 2x – 3y + 9 = 0

Q2)
Given: Point (-2,3) and line 12x – 5y = 13
To find: The distance of the point (-2, 3) from the line 12x – 5y = 13
Formula used: We know that the distance between a point P (m,n) and a line
ax + by + c = 0 is given by,
The given equation of the line is 12x – 5y - 13=0
Here m = -2 and n = 3 , a = 12 , b = -5 , c = -13

D=4
The distance of the point (-2, 3) from the line 12x = 5y + 13 is 4 units
Q3)
The required circle of the form S + λ(2x - y) = 0 is
x2 + y2 -10x + λ(2x - y) = 0
For this circle, the chord y = 2x is a diameter and if the center of this circle lies
on y = 2x, then

Therefore, the required circle is x2 + y2 - 2x - 4y = 0

Q4)

∴ The point of contact is (-1,-1)
