How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:

☒ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the
teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.

☒ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

☒ Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.
(Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing
it via an outside source.)
Lesson idea implementation:
After learning the material about living and non-living things, students will learn about the activity
we will be doing in class. I will go over the learning goals for the lesson and show them an example
of a podcast. Then I will explain the task that we are doing in class. I will explain to the students that
they will be making their own podcast that will show me their understanding of the topic. Before
they start working independently, I will show them exactly how to start. This platform is super easy
to use and I will be there to help. I will be walking around the classroom supporting each student. I
will make sure they are doing it correct and if students are confused, we will put it on the screen to
do together. I will provide feedback all throughout the lesson by giving students pointers and telling
them areas they can improve in. I will make sure I am super encouraging to my students all
throughout. When they finished their recording, I will have students submit their recording and
share with the class if they want to.
Managing student learning: Students will begin the lesson by passive learning from receiving the
information from the teacher. I then will teach them all the things they need to know to achieve their learning
goals. Once they have absorbed all the information, they will shift to active social learners by using their own
knowledge to create a podcast. Before students start recording their podcast they will show or tell me their
plan for it. I will set aside time for students to share their ideas with me before recording. During the lesson if
students are confused they can ask a neighbor, then me. I will show them one last example before allowing
them to record. While students are recording if they get stuck, I will be walking around to help.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection:
This tool supports plenty of way to represent the UDL framework by having students present
information in a different way. Students can express what they have learned in a very creative way
that they aren’t used to. Students are able to create a plan and record a podcast to show their
understanding of the topic. All students are supported in this lesson through audio and transcripts.
Podcasts bring the fun back into learning. Students will be able to express their learning in a creative
way.
Reflection: I feel like the lesson will impact student learning by allowing students to be more
creative. Student’s love being independent, and this allows for students to do that. I think students
will be super engaged and will want to do more lessons with podcasts. I also think students will love
using their own voice to show what they have learned. I think the coolest part will be seeing how
students present the information through the podcasts.
