Do you think social networks positively or negatively affect interpersonal relationships?

That is a
very frequent question that many people ask themselves. Nowadays interpersonal relationships,
whether they are romantic or not, are greatly influenced by social networks, which in many cases
cause the relationship to break up. However, they also help people to meet new people so I believe
that they affect them in a positive way, and that is why I will give several reasons supporting my
opinion.
On social networks, you can connect with like-minded people and share your thoughts. Up to 63
% of teens say they have made new friends online, and 83% of teens say social networking helps
them connect more with friends. This means that people who are distant from their friends or
simply cannot be with them for several reasons can be more connected with each other. For
example, in the old days if your friend went away to study or moved away you could only
communicate with them through letters, but today you could communicate instantly with just a
message.
Social networks can also promote romantic relationships. According to the Pew Research Center,
nearly one-third of Americans overall and 48 percent of those ages 18 to 29 have dated online.
Social networks can be especially helpful for disadvantaged groups in terms of romantic
relationships, such as the LBGT community or others who may have limited options for romantic
interactions around them. So, to me, they are important in that sense.
In conclusion, social networks overall positively affect relationships and although sometimes they
do not beneficiate them, nowadays they are essential in them. Many people would have problems
communicating with their friends or making new ones if there were no social networks and many
beautiful friendships would never have existed. That is why nowadays we have become very
dependent on social networks in terms of relationships.
