Shoulder plugs, also called header plugs are used in air cooled heat exchangers or fanned
aerial coolers to seal the ends of piping systems. They are threaded into the plug sheet of
the header box which allows access for inspection, cleaning, and if necessary, plugging
leaking tubes. Air-cooled heat exchangers are used extensively throughout the oil and
gas industry, from upstream production to refineries, petrochemical and power plants.
Spare plugs and gaskets may be needed to replace originals during routine maintenance or
repairs.
