Pedagogy
Planning In this activity, my students are going to use ABCya Storymaker to create a story
about encountering an animal.
Pedagogy Activity
1. The teacher will first pull up ABCya
Storymaker on their board as a
demonstration.
2. The teacher will walk through how to use the
features, such as text and paint.
3. The teacher will explain that students will be
writing a short story about encountering an
animal of their choice.
4. Students will go to
www.abcya.com/games/storymaker on their
chromebooks.
5. Students will enter their name as prompted.
6. Students will first type their short story, being
sure to use complete sentences with proper
capitalization and punctuation.

7. Students will then be able to use the

draw/paint features to make a picture that
goes along with their story.

8. Students will create a title, and save their

story to their chromebooks.

9. Lastly, students will post their stories to the

class Google drive for the entire class to read.

Mobile App Option
While ABCya does have a mobile app option, the Storymaker game
is not available on the mobile app. The mobile app is for other
books and games. Another app I found that is similar to the ABCya
Storymaker is called My Story Book Maker, by MY STORY, LLC. It is a
free app. It doesn’t have all the same functions as ABCya
Storymaker has online, it is still a convenient and easy way for
students to communicate by creating their own story!
