A. INTRODUCTION The class start with a prayer, take attendance and Ice breaker

Teacher: Who will lead the prayer?

1
Class: Mr. Barut will lead the prayer
Barut: Are you ready to pray classmate?
Class: Yes! We are.
Barut: let us pray. In the name of the father, the son, the holy spirit. Amen.
Class: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy kingdom come;
Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and
forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us
not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Teacher: Good morning! Class
Class Good morning! Sir Calungsod, Welcome to Grade 10

Teacher: Before we start, I have here some Ice breaker for the class about DNA and
RNA molecule. Raise your hand if you know the answer. Understood?
Class: Yes, sir Calungsod
Teacher: for question number 1. What does DNA stand for?
Student: Sir its Deoxyribonucleic acid
Teacher: Very good! number 2. What does RNA stand for?
Student: Sir its Ribonucleic acid
Teacher: Correct, very good! For number 3 What is your idea about Central Dogma?
Who wants to answer?
Student: Sir the answer is Replication, Transcription and Translation
Teacher: Very clever. That’s correct. Next question class, identify the picture if it is
DNA model or RNA model
Teacher: for the question no. 4

Student: Sir I think its RNA

Teacher: Correct, and last question number 5.

Teacher: What do you think about this picture. It is double helix and if you see it is
like a twisted ladder
Student: Sir that is Deoxyribonucleic acid
Teacher: Very good. That’s all class. Thank you let’s proceed to our topic which is
DNA replication
B. DEVELOPMENT Teacher: as you see in the presentation this is Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) and
Ribonucleic acid (RNA)

2
Lets start to DNA and its protein
DNA has bases Adenine, Thymine, Cytosine and Guanine. These bases are needed
for the correct DNA code to replicate. (Give some examples of DNA result like
bloodline in the family and some DNA defects) Remember class that the Adenine is
complement to Thymine, and Guanine is to Cytosine. Am I understood class?
Student: Yes, sir.
Teacher: who compliment Adenine?
Student: The Thymine
Teacher: And for Cytosine?
Student: Guanine
Teacher: Very good. Always remember it is for DNA

Next class, there are steps in the process of Replication

step 1. An enzymes called helicase breaks the bond between nitrogenous bases. Two
strands of DNA split.
Class this Helicase may relate to a zipper. You all know how zipper works, right?
The teeth of the zipper represent the DNA bases, the slider represent the Helicase.

Step 2. The base is attached to each strand then pair up the free nucleotides found in
the Cytoplasm

Step 3. The complementary Nucleotides are added to each strand by DNA

polymerase to form new strand. Two new DNA molecules, each with a parent strand
and each with a new strand are formed. The DNA replication is known as Semi-
conservative replication, because one of the old strands is conserved in each new
molecule.

Teacher: How many steps are there in DNA replication?

Students: There are 3 steps sir
Teacher: Then what step does Two DNA molecules are formed to the Old and New
DNA strand?
Student: The answer is step 3 sir.
Teacher: Very good. Then what step does the DNA Unzip to each other?
Student: Of course, Step 1 Sir.
Teacher: Very good, well class now you all know how DNA replication is done.
Let’s proceed to the kinds of RNA.

3
Teacher: Class what did you recognize between these two nucleic acids what are the
difference. Can you analyze it?

(Let the student analyze the Picture)

Teacher: Did you recognize their proteins? What do you see?
Student: Sir, The Uracil
Teacher: That’s it, in the RNA, the Adenine is to Uracil, Guanine and Cytosine is
the same
Teacher: Remember class that RNA is a single strand nucleic acid but unlike DNA,
these RNA can replicate Itself. DNA needs another DNA to replicate. Imagine how
independent the RNA is but don’t belittle RNA they are the one who gives signal to
produce another DNA strand.

Teacher: Class, there are types of RNA

1. mRNA- this RNA gives information from the DNA in the nucleus to the protein
manufacturing are.

2. Ribosomes. Are made of ribosomal RNA (rRNA)- This RNA holds the protein
into the mRNA using its information to assemble the amino acid in correct order.

Teacher: Class before I forgot, what is amino acid? Anyone?

Class: …
Teacher: Amino acid are the building blocks of protein. Now you know. Remember
that class. Going back to our topic. The last type of RNA is..

3. tRNA or the transfer RNA- this RNA supplies amino acids to the ribosome to be
assembled as protein.

Teacher: Again, what are the Types of RNA?

Class: mRNA, rRNA and tRNA
Teacher: Who gives information?
Class: mRNA

4
Teacher: Who supplies the amino acids to the ribosome?
Class: tRNA
Teacher: And who holds the protein into the mRNA?
Class: rRNA

Teacher: That’s all, Thank you

C. ENGAGEMENT For the activity,

Objective:

 Form a model of a DNA template to determine the sequence of bases in the

new DNA strand.
 Perform the process of DNA replication

Instruction:

Form a group, each group must have 8 members.

1. Every member must represent a nitrogenous bases of DNA (Adenine, Thymine,
Guanine, Cytosine).
2. Two of the members must be an enzyme called Helicase.
3. Perform how the Replication happens

D. ASSIMILATION The teacher will give a quiz on the topic.

Identify the Correct answer below. Write it in a ¼ sheet of paper.

1.  The process of copying the parent DNA helix into two identical daughter helices.
a. Illusion
b. Transcription
c. Replication
d. Translation

2. DNA replication is known as

a. Conservative replication
b. Semi-conservative replication
c. Concerned replication
d. Unconcerned replication

3. Identify the correct nitrogenous bases of DNA

a. A=T, C=G
b. T=C, G=A
c. A=U, G=T
d. C=A, G=U

4. Which step does the strand split into two DNA strands
a. Replication Fork Formation
