(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gy3JCNBgb94) the preschoolers will each participate in
innovation time and explore whole toys, exhibiting 3 out of 4 good innovator practices, and participate
in charting discoveries of the toys in a DO-HAPPEN chart.

Procedures:

1. Share the book, The Most Magnificent Thing, with the students.
2. Share the video of the book with the students.
3. Discuss the characters in the book.
4. Introduce Whole Toys
5. State the purpose of innovation time
6. Set task: Today we will explore whole toys. (Toys in the middle)

and imagine (chart)
8. Chart: What do you have to DO to make something HAPPEN? Do – happen
9. Open exploration time
10. Chart discoveries about the toys

2. Behavior – what the student is expected to do.
3. Conditions – how will they accomplish the task – independently, as a small group, whole class.
4. Criteria – to what degree will the student be successful.

Lesson 2
Objective:

After reading, Be a Maker, and viewing the video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpYPEUJObQ0)

the preschoolers will each explore different tools and choose at least one to draw a sketch on, then
they will participate in charting a Venn diagram, choose a partner and participate in screw perspective
activity, draw a sketch of a screw, and participate in finding screws on different toys.

Procedures:

1. Share the book, Be A Maker, with the students.

2. Share the video of the book with the students.
3. Discuss the characters in the book.
4. Introduce Toys vs. Tools
5. Add notice carefully to the chart & discuss
6. Partner work: blindfolds and screws
7. Compare screws and introduce the word perspective
8. Sketch a screw (remind that a good innovator is never finished, notice carefully)
9. Find screws on toys (chart number of screws found)
10. Introduce more on Toys vs. Tools
11. Set task: We will explore tools. (tools in the middle)
12. As you play and explore, think about the work the tool is used for
13. Chart: Tools and work they do
14. Sketch: choose a tool to do a careful sketch- Good innovators are never finished
15. Venn diagram- 3 tools on one side and 3 tools on the other. Sort. (use hula hoops, rope,
