ABSTRACT
This section should summarize the whole content of your report. It is a very concise summary
of all the salient points:
• Introduction
• Objective /Aim of the experiment
• Method used
• Main finding( s)
• Conclusion

INTRODUCTION
• A brief introduction of your lab, relate to real scenario
• The basic concept of the lab, relate to fundamentals.

THEORY
This section should contain theoretical information of your lab:
• What you learned from the book (cite the references)
• Equations involved etc.
• Number the all equations used in the report.

OBJECTIVES
• List out the objectives based on number of experiment you have to conduct in the lab.
• Don’ t build a long sentence that combine all the objectives.
• Make it concise & clear.

METHODOLOGY, APPARATUS, MATERIAL

• Include the equipment & material used.
• Label the equipment accordingly.
• Describe the methodology/ procedures used
• Use appropriate English tenses ( present or past tenses) in passive structure
• Include assumptions, best practices or method in this section.
• If there is any discrepancy, you may still include it but present it appropriately with its
mitigation steps.

RESULTS & DISCUSSION (DATA, CALCULATION & ANALYSIS)
• Start with the purpose / objective of your lab
• Present the data in term of table / f igure / graph
• CALCULATION - Provide ONLY 1 SAMPLE OF COMPLETE CALCULATION for each
• step / method / experiment etc.
• Graphs constructed from your result data should be included in this section
• Graphs are used to support your statements / reasonings.
• All your statements shall be supported by numeric data.

CONCLUSION
• Conclude based on the objective( s)
• State the finding(s) with numbers / figures obtained

RECOMMENDATIONS
• Based on the data provided dan home experiment you do any recommendation( s) to
improve the experiment etc.

FORMAT FOR DATA REPRESENTATION
• Present results in appropriate tables and graphs (and ensure consistent format)
• Number and label (i.e. the caption) for figure or table accordingly. Label the (x - axis, y-axis) of
your graphs.
• Don’ t forget to include units for tables and figures /graphs (including their captions)
• Include deviation bar as well (if available) (i.e. error bar) by adopting appropriate deviation
measurement (i.e. standard deviation, student T- test)

STANDARD GRAPH /FIGURE AND TABLE
REPRESENTATION Use visible markers. Indicate
them in a legend (ideally in black- Number your caption accordingly
and-white format)

Stick marks on both axes

Use appropriate Set the full plot border in black (1 pts)
initial axis value

16

DATA REPRESENTATION
• Define whether your data is measured experimental data or model data:
• Measured experimental data: in tabulated points /bars
• Model data: in connected lines

ADDITIONAL INFO
• Report for ‘CLOSE ENDED’ must be hardcopy. Submit before starting the experiment.
• Report for ‘OPEN-ENDED’ need to be submitted into MOODLE system.
• All report must include OURIGINAL report.
• Late submission WITHOUT VALID REASON will be awarded “0” mark. Lab reports should be
submitted according to the level for each lab as follow:

Level 0 - 1 week after experiment

Level 1 - 2 weeks after experiment

Level 2 - 3 weeks after experiment

CPS - 4 weeks after experiment

• All types of ACADEMIC DISHONESTY (e.g. cheating, copying and plagiarism) are NOT TOLERATED.
Students are advised to familiarize themselves with university policy regarding this matter. 18
