CHAPTER I

Background of the study

A pandemic is a disease outbreak that spans several countries and affects a large number of
people. Pandemic are most often caused by viruses, like Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19),
which can easily spread from person to person. A new virus, like COVID-19, can emerge from
anywhere and quickly spread around the world. It is hard to predict when or where the next new
pandemic will emerge.

Face to face learning ensures a better understanding and collection of lesson content and gives class
member a chance to bond with one another. Face to face learning is essentially a teacher-centered
method of education and tends to vary widely among cultures. In face to face education, there are
less distractions. You’re required to pay attention to your teacher or school work at a certain period
of time. In turn, you’ll be able to concentrate harder on learning the lessons at hand.

Modular learning students engage themselves in learning the concepts presented in the module. They
develop a sense of responsibility in accomplishing the tasks provided in the module. The advantages
of using modules for learning: students can choose their most convenient time and place to answer,
it is self-pacing, it provides flexibility for teachers, and the acquisition of better self-study or learning
skills among students.

The Last year, Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) was one of the most difficult subjects
because it was included in Modular Distance Learning because in the module, you will not be able to
understand much of what is being studied because it is about talking, compare to face to face. You
can easily understand the (SMAW) that will be taught. You and your welding skills will be
sharpened because you will experience it. Students of Juan C. Angara National High School learn
more in face to face learning because they can interact with your classmates and teachers and you
can do activities that cannot be done in modular. Welding requires skills from students of Shielded
Metal Arc Welding (SMAW). Before starting the training, one needs to know all the equipment and
how to handle the welding machine efficiently and effectively.
The previous years is difficult because of modular distance learning. Students only see
pictures on it and they are only in imagining able to weld, but in face to face, the students’ learning
became smooth, especially the students of SMAW.

Statement of the Problem

This study aims to determine the benefits of face to face learning compared to modular
learning as perceive by Grade 12 Student Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) of Juan C. Angara
Memorial High School, School year 2021-2022. Especially it sought to answer the following:

1.What is the profile of the respondents in terms of:

1.1. Age
1.2. Sex
1.3. Grade level and section

2.What are the benefits of face to face learning?

Scope and the Delimitation of the Study

This study focuses on the benefits of face-to-face learning compared to modular learning as
perceive by the Grade 12 Student Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) in Juan C. Angara
Memorial High School, School Year 2021-2022. The school is located in Barangay Dibaraybay
Dinalungan, Aurora. The target respondent of this research are the student from Grade 11 and Grade
12 students.

Significant of the Study

The result of this research will provide information about benefits of face-to-face learning
compared to modular learning Grade 12 Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) of Juan C. Angara
Memorial High School, School Year 2021-2022. It could be useful means to help students, parents’
guidance teacher in understanding about benefits of face-to-face learning of Juan C. Angara
Memorial High School, School Year 2021-2022.
Students. The results will provide the students will some knowledge about benefits of face-to-
face learning. It will give the student realization about the benefits face to face learning.
Parents. The result can give their knowledge and understand that can use to guide face to face
learning is better than modular learning
Definition of Terms

The following terms are defined operation so as to give clearer view and
understanding on how the terms use in the study.

Face to Face Learning-This is where the teacher and the other students meet in a set place
for a set time, for either one-on-one learning or, most commonly, in group class lesson
similar to what happens in school.
Modular Learning-Is the approach where the focus is on learning outcomes, and its success
relies on connecting of outcomes students learning and course design.
SMAW-Shielded, Metal, Arc, Welding. It is the one of the specializations of TVL offered in
JCAMHS.

Encountered-Face to face is better than modular learning.

Result- A consequence, effect or outcome of something.
