INSTALLING OPERATING SYSTEM

Name: ___________________________________________ Section: ____________________

I. LEARNING OBJECTIVE

Install Operating System (OS) in accordance with established installation procedures and
to comply with end-user requirements.
TLE_IACSS9-12ICCS-IIa-j-30

Subtasks:
1. Explain the process of installing operating system;
2. Conforms to the safety standards in installing operating system;
3. Perform installing operating system.

Time Allotment: 8 hours

II. KEY CONCEPTS

It is now time to utilize what we create in our previous lesson. If you have successfully
created a bootable device, then this part will be as easy as 1-2-3. But before we proceed in
installing an operating system, let us take note of the following safety prerequisites:

Back-up important files

Just simply copy your important files to your external hard-drive or flash drive. This is to
make sure that you do not lose anything once we start the process of installing operating
system. Especially in the drive where the operating system will be installed (Local disk C:).

Navigate to C:\Users and select the username of your PC. You will then see a list of folders
just like below:

Marked with check symbol are the folders wherein

important files are usually located. Navigate to these
folders and back-up / copy the files that you need. After
doing so, we will proceed to the next step.

Check hardware compatibility
Before installing or upgrading the operating system on your computer, check the hardware
in the computer to make sure it is compatible with the version that you are planning to
install.

If you find that one or more pieces of hardware in your computer are not compatible, it is
recommended to replace that hardware with the compatible one. Having compatible
hardware in your computer helps ensure that the installation process will be successful.

Check the website of the operating system for the hardware requirements & compatibility.

Configure Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) to boot to your bootable USB

(Note: BIOS interface differ in each motherboard brand see your motherboard manual on how
to access boot options)
1. Insert your bootable flash drive on the PC that you would like the BIOS to
recognize it as the 1st boot priority.
2. Power on your PC, then upon start-up look for the instruction what to press in
order to access the BIOS, otherwise continuously press “DEL”, “ESC”, “F2”, or “F10”.
3. Under boot option, find the boot device priority, then check if your bootable device
is detected. To check, look for its brand name. Also check under Hard-disk options.
4. Also check if what device is set as the 1st boot priority, if it is not your flash drive,
change the setting by pressing ENTER, using the arrow key choose your USB flash
drive.
5. Once your bootable device is set as the 1st priority, press F10 to Save & Exit.
6. It will now boot directly to your bootable flash drive.
