Study Guide on Hormones and Emotions

Name of Hormones How does it affect our emotions?

1. Dopamine This hormone is associated with pleasure and reward.

Dopamine has the power to make or destroy a person's
work ethic. It can inspire you to work hard or not at all
to reach some goals.

2. Serotonin One of the happy hormones is this one. It's

considered to keep your mood, happiness, and
worry in check.

3. Oxytocin This hormone is known as the "love hormone." Oxytocin

is a hormone that is linked to happy, fuzzy feelings and
has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety in studies.

4. Melatonin The anti-aging hormone is the name of this wonderful

molecule. It is in charge of regulating your body clock, as
well as rest and restoration. Melatonin is a sleep hormone
that lowers energy levels. Low energy levels may
increase depression symptoms.

5. Endorphins This hormone is a natural painkiller that your body

produces. It is well-known for its capacity to deal with
both internal and external sources of pain. Endorphins,
like morphine, provide the body a pleasant feeling. The
feeling that comes after a run or workout is sometimes
described as "euphoric."

6. Adrenaline Your kidneys generate this hormone, also known as

epinephrine, to help you deal with stress while
you're in a tough scenario.
7. Norepinephrine This hormone also aids your body's ability to cope with
high levels of stress. Euphoria (great happiness) has been
linked to norepinephrine bursts, but they've also been
linked to panic attacks, high blood pressure, and
hyperactivity.

2. Are hormones elements or compounds? Explain.

Hormones are a type of chemical. Hormones are present in every multicellular

organism (plants, animals, fungi, brown algae, and red algae). These compounds are
also found in unicellular species and may act as signaling molecules, albeit there is
disagreement on whether they should be classified as hormones.
