transportation.

Spread across a total surface area of just over 84 miles, this gives Nagpur a population
density of 30,000 people per square mile.

DEMOGRAPHICS OF NAGPUR

Taking a closer look at the population demographics in Nagpur shows that there is a higher

concentration of males than females. There are a large number of children in the city, making
up over 10% of the total population.
When it comes to religion, almost 60% of the population is Hindu. Buddhists make up over
one-quarter of the population, while there are also Muslims, Christians, Jains and Sikhs.
There are over 859,000 residents living in slums – or more than 35% of the population. The

The most commonly spoken language is Marathi, which is also the official language.
However, the language has been heavily influenced by other languages, so in some areas
slang is used that combines Marathi and Hindi. In businesses and schools, English is often
spoken.
POPULATION GROWTH IN NAGPUR
The city has seen steady population growth over the years and with the announcement of it
becoming a smart city, is only expected to increase its population in the future. The 2011
growth rate was at 13%, so we can assume another considerable increase in population is on
the way.
