Exercise 1 SOLIDWORKS Simulation

Basic Fill Analysis

Exercise 1: Perform a basic fill analysis using the

Basic Fill part provided.
Analysis Units: Metric, SI

Procedure Follow the procedure below.

1 Open a part file.
Open Basic Fill Analysis.
2 Create a New Study.
Create a study named, Funnel.
Specify a Single Material Injection Process with Shell elements.
3 Define Material through Injection Units.
Click Default Database.
Click Sort by Family.
Browse to the ABS folder and select (P) Asahi Chemical / STYLAC
120.
4 Units.
Set the units to Metrics, SI.

Note You can edit the unit system before or after creating an analysis.
5 Injection Location.
Add an Injection Location to the
sketch point at the end of the model.

6 Create Mesh.
Use the Curvature-based
Refinement Method with the
slider all the way to Coarse.

7 Run analysis.
Run a Fill analysis and view the Results.
Review Fill Time with and without the Weld Lines.

Note The Max. Injection Pressure of 100 MPa is reached before the Analysis
Manager reaches 90% of the cells filled. Notice the Results Adviser
traffic light indicates a failure (red), even though the cavity is able to be
completely filled at the machine maximum injection pressure of 100
MPA. Increasing the part wall thickness is one of the best ways to
reduce the required injection pressure to fill the part cavity. Changing
the part geometry using SOLIDWORKS and rerunning a
SOLIDWORKS Plastics analysis is covered in Lesson 2: Detecting a
Short Shot.
8 Save and close the file.
