Dear Jonas
It's been 3 months since I left the country to go to France. I didn't
write to you in recent weeks for the personal reasons. but after having
received your letter I saw we are still so close.I have to tell you about
the last book I read which is entitled The empty house by Claude
Gutman.
this book takes place during the second world wars. It does not tell
the story of the Jewish deportation but the lack of a family for the
narrator. Throughout the story we will follow a young boy named
David whose religion is Jewish. I would like to share my feelings with
you. This book particularly touched me. First of all, from the beginning
of the book David saw these parents being rounded up by French
soldiers . This event touched me a lot because he witnessed this
helpless scene in the face of this event. Then in the rest of the story a
family who hosted him gave him a false identity card. This young boy
has lost everything he identified as his race and religion by reading
this passage I had chills because of this he has no more history No
more trace showing what it is. During this story the child will be
transferred to different accommodations such as a priest or to a house
welcoming Jews. In addition he is often found alone, abandoned
especially at the end where he sees with his own eyes all the Jewish
children housed in a house this make deport the end of the book my
upset we did not expect it. From beginning to end he felt alone and
give up.
I hope that my feelings about this book will make you want to read it
and that we will soon be able to see it again. See you soon
Your friend, Arthur.
