Far from a mere tool of transportation, the automobile is a North American icon, often being treated with deeper affection than the owners family. As such, as lovers celebrate Valentines Day, so do those among us who hold dear our cherished Volkswagen, Audi, Toyota or Ford. The 2011 Vancouver International Auto Show is where car lovers dreams meet steel and rubber reality. Regardless of what sort of affection you have for cars, therell be something at the show to stir your emotions. As construction continues on its traditional home, BC Place, this years show will be hosted at the Vancouver Convention Centre. The six-day auto-extravaganza begins March 29th. Automotive industry woes are not a new story, but what may be is the resilience of an industry forced to reinvent itself. Nowadays, companies such as Ford, Chevrolet and Honda are looking to the future, and their vehicles reflect this new-found confidence. The 2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 will be making an appearance at the 2011

Vancouver International Auto Show as will the 2011 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible. Available in limited production in 2012, the Boss 302 is the quickest, best-handling straight-production Mustang ever offered by Ford. ThisStang is upgraded in nearly every vehicle system; engine output, brakes, suspension, interior and exterior, all designed to optimize weight, aerodynamics and track performance.
The 2011 Camaro Convertible takes the successful performance of the direct-injection V-6, V-8 and SS Camaro and drops the lid. The Convertibles silhouette mirrors the presence of its 1969 counterpart, and will no doubt stir nostalgia of muscle car fans. Love for the environment and safety are also in the spotlight at this years show, with hybrids and five-star crash ratings the norm in many manufac-
turers lineup of vehicles. Plenty of fuel efficiency improvements have been made in the form of low-rolling-resistance tires, aerodynamic exteriors, displacement-on-demand and auto-startstop systems to name a few. Carmakers are also taking safety to new levels with standard six-airbag systems in most vehicles, while driving assistance aids such as lane-exiting warning systems and active stability control.
Some of the vehicles expected to appear or be teased at the show also represent the demand the new buying demographic is influencing. Take the 2011 Honda CR-Z, for instance: a hybrid-redo of the CR-X two-seat sports compact that ended its run in 1991. The CR-Z is a sports hybrid that finds power from a collaboration of both electric and internal combustion power sources. The vehicle is targeted at the 20-something buyer with an environmentally conscious mind and its sub-$25k price range reiterates this point. The trend of recreating iconic vehicles isnt showing any sign of slowing down. A Toyota Supra, Audi Quattro and new, New Beetle are all in the foreseeable future. This love for iconic vehicles will continue to permeate pocketbooks and turn heads just as sure as a love for our environment will push technology to make more efficient, greener vehicles. Regardless of what sort of love you have for cars, therell be something at the 2011 Vancouver International Auto Show to find a place in your heart.
