INTRODUCTION

A lung mass is an abnormal growth or lesion in the lung tissue. It can be either benign
(non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous).

TYPES

1. Small cell lung cancer-has poor prognosis


2. Non-small cell lung cancer-
● Adeno Cell carcinoma-causes peripheral lung mass
● Squamous Cell carcinoma-usually cause central lung mass

In India , squamous cell carcinoma is the most common carcinoma in both males and
females.

RISK FACTORS:-

1. SMOKING- can be seen in both active or passive smokers

2. INDOOR/OUTDOOR POLLUTION

3. COPD patients- are more prone to develop lung mass

4. METASTASIS - Carcinoma of prostate, ovary, lymphoma can cause metastatic lung


cancer

5. Occupations like ship building industry workers , are more prone to the asbestos
substance
