IKIGAI

How can you use the concept of Ikigai in putting up a business?

Ikigai is a three millennia-old Japanese ideology that translates as 'reason for being'. It
allows individuals to become clear about their role in life, leading to well-being and happiness.
Ikigai is about finding joy, fulfillment, and balance in the daily routine of life. It also represents a
balance of four main drivers influencing happiness and motivation: passion, skills, demand, and
meaning. These four factors can be used by businesses to find a perfect balance that provides
a different and powerful driving force for a company's success and momentum.
First is to discover and clarify what you are passionate about. For a business, the culture
of the organization is motivated by work. This may be a particular activity, an influence you have
on the planet, or a client you love to serve. Second is to find what you are good at. Just by
simply doing what you love will not lead to a meaningful life. You need to do well at it too. You
need to make sure you are good at what you do to live a worthwhile existence and be a well-
balanced business. Third is to consider what the world needs. Notwithstanding if you are
an individual or a business, you are going to spend a lot of time making and doing something
that will go ignored and unrecognized if the thing you work on is not even necessary in the
world. Your emphasis needs to include a good or service that someone somewhere needs and
is beneficial. Last is to work and give effort to something that you can be paid for. If you can find
something you are passionate about, something you are good at, and something people need,
you will not be too successful if you cannot charge enough for it to offset your expenses and
make a fair profit. The dilemma addressed by your product or service has to be significant
enough to inspire individuals to pay with their hard-earned cash. If not, you are only creating a
charitable organization and not a corporation.
Using the principles of ikigai to direct the intent of business will help businesses illustrate
how their services and products help make the earth a better place. It seems clear that it would
resonate with consumers to provide goods and services that are beneficial for the world.
Research indicates that more consumers would root with their money and support the business
that does something good for people, and our environment.
