Project Brief/Context:

This project’s primary purpose is to ideate, create, and execute the design for a two bedroom apartment,
located in Thane, within the stipulated time frame as well as within the limitations of the budget. The client,
an old couple, desires a comforting and calming home environment, one that is easy going, simple to look
after, and one that can accommodate guests for overnight stays within a small space. Part of the brief
also involves providing interior landscaping services to the home, which will be suitable to the location of
the project, and that would be sustainable for an old couple to look after. Thus, the research base to this
project primarily involves information pertaining to sustainable interior landscaping practices, the detailed
study of houseplant care, and a market research of the ornamental value house plants easily available in
today’s market. The execution of the furniture of the project is carried out through a third party company
by the name of Navkar Studio, with a consideration of appropriate market research. Additional third party
vendors’ and carpenters’ services would also be utilised for various other resources.

This project bears a special significance to me, as it is the residence of my grandparents, and it will be
their retirement home in the city. It’s also quite an important project as it is my very first project that is
designed and executed directly under me, and thus marks the beginning of my Interior Design Practice. It
would also be the first project where I would be looking upon the execution side of things. Thus, it would
teach me a great deal of practicalities faced when handling a design project. It also solidifies my interest
in interior landscaping practices, and allows for me to carve my niche into practice.

Graduation Project Scope of work:

•Design, plan and elevation drawings for entry, living and dining, two bedrooms, mandir and kitchen.
•3D renderings to show clients and to provide reference to carpenters and civil workers.
•Electrical looping and flooring layouts
•False ceiling design
•All detailed drawings for furniture made at site to give to carpenters
•All elevation detail drawings
•Material selection from Vendors - laminates, fabrics and other finishes
•Selection of any loose furniture and/or decor elements
•Preparing BOQ and planning according to budget requirements.
•Preparing and setting a timeline for the completion of the project and payment installations.
•Exploring interior landscaping ideas and design- researching for houseplants that can sustain given the
lighting, temperature, humidity, and other conditions within the interior of the home.
•Research for adequate care and maintenance needs of the plants so as to better sustain them in the
client's home.
•Recommending ornamental, statement plants that convey art and act as live decor for the space.
•Creating a calm and easy living environment with visual beauty through the intermingling of jungle
elements.
