Questions:

1. In what ratio, the tea costing Rs.127 should be mixed with another tea costing Rs.79 so that the seller earns
a profit of 20% after the selling the mixture for Rs.138? (Show alligation method)
2. Solve the above question using weighted average.
3. A jar full of wine contains 56% alcohol. A part of this wine is replaced by another containing 21% spirit and
now the percentage of spirit was found to be 35%. The quantity of whisky replaced is: (Show the use of
alligation method for this question)
4. Two mixtures M and N contain milk and water are in the ratio 5:3 and 4:3 respectively. 24 liters of mixture M
is mixed with 35 liters of mixture N then in the new mixture the quantity of milk will be how much less than
that of water? (Solve without using algebraic equation)
5. From a container containing 36 liters of pure milk a boy replaces 6 litres with pure water. He further repeats
the process one more time, then the ratio of milk and water in the new mixture is
6. Two containers P and Q contain 76% and 26% solution of A respectively. Solutions from both the containers
are mixed to form 44% solution of A. If the quantity taken from both P and Q are reversed, then find the
strength of the new solution.
7. Two solutions of 70% and 98% purity are mixed resulting in 35 litres of 78% purity. How much of the first
type should be mixed with second type? (Use Alligation rule only)
8. A man purchased a table and a chair for Rs.2000. He sold the table at a profit of 20% and the chair at a profit
of 40%. In this way, his total profit was 25%. Find the cost price in rupees of the table. (Use Alligation Rule
only)
9. A man buys milk at Rs.85 per litre and dilutes it with water. He sells the mixture at the same rate and thus
earns 11.11% profit. Find the quantity of water mixed by him in every litre of milk.
10. In what ratio should water be mixed with milk costing Rs.12 per litre so as to make a profit of 50% by selling
the mixture at Rs.15 per litre? (Use Alligation Rule only)
11. The price of a table and a chair is Rs.3000. The table was sold at a 20% profit and the chair at a 10% loss. If in
the transaction a man gains Rs.300, how much is cost price of the table?
12. A 66-liter solution contains water and milk in the ratio of 6:5. How much water should be added so that the
solution contains 40% milk?
13. A solution contains liquid A and B in the ratio 1:6. Another mixture contains A and B in the ratio 4:3. In what
ratio the two solutions must be mixed so that the resultant mixture contains A and B in the ratio 9:5? (Use
Alligation Rule only)
14. An alloy is prepared by melting metal A, B and C in the ratio 1:3:2. The cost of metal A is 20% more than C
which is 25% less than B. If the cost of metal B is Rs.60 per kg, then find the cost of alloy per kg
15. A shopkeeper sells 90 kg of sugar. Some quantity was sold at a loss of 6% and the rest at 15% profit and
thereby gaining a profit of 3% in the whole transaction. Find the quantity sold at a loss of 5%. (Solve using
weighted average only)
16. Sugar A worth Rs. 120/kg and B of Rs. 130/kg are mixed with a third variety C in the ratio of 1:1:2. If the
mixture is worth Rs. 161, then find the price of third variety of sugar.
17. In a mixture the ratio of alcohol to water is 7:4. If 9 litres more alcohol is added the ratio becomes 11:5. How
many litres of alcohol was in the original mixture?
18. Two mixtures contain milk and water in the ratio 7:9 and 8: 11. Find the ratio of milk and water in the new
mixture if both the mixtures are mixed in the ratio 5:6.
19. A jar contains a mixture of water and alcohol in the ratio of 7:3. Another jar contains water and alcohol in
the ratio 5:4. In what proportion should the solutions of two jars be mixed to achieve proportion of 2:1.
20. Three mixtures contain mixture of milk and water. In the mixture milk is 40%, in the second mixture it is 30%
and in third mixture it is 16.66%. If all the mixtures are mixed in equal quantities, find the ratio of milk and
water in new mixture.

4. Two mixtures M and N contain milk and water are in the ratio 5:3 and 4:3 respectively. 24 liters of
mixture M is mixed with 35 liters of mixture N then in the new mixture the quantity of milk will be how much
less than that of water? (Solve without using algebraic equation)
Quantity of Milk in Mixture M = (5/8) * 24 = 15 liters Quantity of Water in Mixture M = (3/8) * 24 = 9 liters
Quantity of Milk in Mixture N = (4/7) * 35 = 20 liters Quantity of Water in Mixture N = (3/7) * 35 = 15 liters
Total Quantity of Milk in the New Mixture = 15 + 20 = 35 liters Total Quantity of Water in the New Mixture =
9 + 15 = 24 liters Therefore, the quantity of milk in the new mixture is 11 liters less than that of water.
