LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 7

DATE: September 30, 2019

DAY: Monday

SCHEDULE: G7 - Rosal ______ - _______

CONTENT STANDARD: The learner demonstrates understanding of the key concepts of measurements.

PERFORMANCE STANDARD: Learners is able to formulate real-life problems involving measurements

and solve these using variety of strategies.

LEARNING COMPETENCIES: Converts measurements from one unit to another unit in Time
and Speed: Metric System to Metric System and Metric System to
English System.
I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the period the students are expected to:
1. Define speed
2. express the resulting speed value with the appropriate unit.
3. Solve problems involving speed.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

TOPIC: MEASURING SPEED
REFERENCE: G7 Math Module and Elementary Algebra by: Job D. Gamboa
MATERIALS: Time card, quiz notebook, ball pen, visual aids, chalk and board, real object

III. PROCEDURE
A. Preparatory Activity
1. DAILY ROUTINE
a. Prayer
b. Greetings
c. Checking of attendance
d. Checking of assignment

2. PRIMING

Let two students run in a distance of 15 meters. Record the time they reach
the finish line. Determine who is faster by computing their speed.

B. Lesson Proper

1. Activity
Activity # 1: “SOLVE! SOLVE! SOLVE”
A girl travels __ meter with her bicycle. The trip takes __seconds.  Express her speed in
meter/second.
Given:
distance (d) =
time (t) =
Unknown:
Fornula:
Solution:
2. Analysis
1 How will you define speed?
2. How is speed measured?
3. What is the formula for speed?
4. What is the importance of knowing the speed?
3. Abstraction
 Speed is defined as the rate of change in position, expressed as distance traveled per unit of
time. It is a scalar quantity with dimensions distance/time.
 The speed calculation formula is: Speed = Distance / Time
 Speed unit in SI system is meters per second (m/s).
 Other common units are miles per hour (m/h) and kilometers per hour (k/h).
 STEP IN SOLVING SPEED
1. First, we identify the variables in our problem.
2. We place the variables in their correct position in the speed formula.
3. Perform the calculation and express the resulting speed value with the appropriate unit.

4. Application

Activity # 2: “FOLLOWING THE RULE”

1. Jared’s Family went to Regina Rica from Savemore Tanay they traveled16km in 2 hours.
Solve for the speed.
2. During this infamous trek, known as the “Bataan Death March”, the prisoner was forced to march
137 km in 144 hours, with only one meal of rice during the entire journey. Get their speed.
3. Clarice Delfina our track and field player in grade 10 student won in 3 km running last year.
If she was able to finish in 15 mins what is her speed?
4. A boat from Tanay Parola sailed 18 km in 3hrs. Compute its speed.
5. A School educational trip from Manila travel to Tanay, Rizal it takes 5 hours.
The distance is 810 km. Calculate the average speed.

IV. EVALUATION
Activity #3: “FASTER!”

The 1 2 3 4 5 is faster than SOUND.

Solve for the speed of the following:
DISTANCE TIME CHOICES
(km) (h)
1 60 6 I = 20 km/h
2 500 25 G = 30 km/h
3 90 3 L = 10 km/h
4 1500 10 S = 11 km/h
5 112 4 T = 28 km/h
H = 150 km/h
