The properties of jet engine powered aircraft make it necessary to prevent Fan Blade Integrity

BOWED ROTOR START PREVENTION ENGINE OVERTEMPERATURE (NO SURGE OR STALL)


S When the EGT is more than the limits and there is no surge or stall do not

S For usual shutdown cool down the engine for 5 min. If the engine was
S Cool down the engine at Idle for 5 minutes unless you know that continued
operated at more than 1.33 EPR for more than 5 minutes cool down the
operation will cause damage or if there is no decrease in EGT

S Note the time and the highest temperature for subsequent analysis.
Emergency Shut Down - Engine Restart possible S Example for Area A2 from 1 to 9 events of EGT overtemperature
In case of an emergency shutdown (which is a shutdown without engine cool S Record engine serial Number
down at idle) and possible engine restart:
S Examine the exhaust area for signs of burning or distortion and metal
S Dry motor the engine for maximum 2 minutes to decrease the EGT below particles from upstream damage

S If there are no signs of damage the engine can stay in service

S If damage is visible refer to AMM.
S Let the engine stabilize at Idle Power for 15 minutes before usual operation

Emergency Shut Down - Engine Restart not possible
S Quickly move the thrust lever to idle.
In case of an emergency shutdown and impossible engine restart, try to start
S Shut down the engine and dry motor the engine for maximum 2 minutes to
the engine again 6 hours after the last engine shutdown or turn the HP
decrease the EGT below 250 °C

more than 500 lbs. Between 10 to 20 min. after the last manual rotor turn, S Note the time and the highest temperature for subsequent analysis
before you try an engine start, the HP rotor must be free (less than 500 lbs of
torque is necessary to turn the rotor 360 deg). If the rotor is free, you can start
the engine again. If the motor cannot be turned (more than 500 lbs of torque is
necessary) try to turn the rotor each half hour until the rotor is free. Turn the
rotor 180 deg and start the engine again one hour after the last rotor turn. In
both cases operate the engine 15 min. at idle before you increase the thrust.

ENGINE SURGE OR STALL (NO OVERTEMPERATURE)


S If there is an engine surge or stall with normal EGT, quickly move the thrust
lever to MIN IDLE STOP and operate the engine 5 minutes in idle before
you continue engine operation
S If there is an engine surge or stall and EGT unusual high, quickly move the
thrust lever to MIN IDLE STOP and stop the engine.
S Dry motor the engine for maximum 2 minutes to decrease the EGT below
250 °C.
S Before you start the engine again correct the cause of the problem
