A Gamified Activity on Elements of Fiction

A. Lesson: Elements of Fiction

B. Description of the Activity: Using flashcards by Brainscape, students learn
terms and concepts from the topic Elements of Fiction – Characters. Brainscape
uses adaptive flashcards and confidence-based repetition method that help
students learn twice as fast, and to retain knowledge for longer.
C. Objectives of the activity:
The Brainscape flashcards activity aims to:
1. Help students retain knowledge of key terms and concepts about the
element of fiction (focus on characters) by using adaptive flashcards
2. Promote student autonomy and accountability in studying their lessons
3. Help students gain and build more confidence in answering the quiz
questions
D. Directions:

1. Using any device connected to the internet, click on this link to proceed to the
activity: https://www.brainscape.com/p/4ZUMR-LH-CNYAZ
2. Log In or Create an Account to start.

3. Once you created your account, click on “Elements of Fiction – Characters”.

4. There are 25 questions in the deck “Elements of Fiction – Characters”. Click
“Reveal Answer” when you are ready to check if your answer is correct.

5. At the bottom part of the card, answer the question “How well did you know
this?” by clicking on the appropriate number: 1 for not at all up to 5 for
perfectly. It’s all right if you don’t do well on all questions. You are doing
good.
 6. At the left, you will see a confidence progress meter and a timer. Your
confidence and speed in answering will improve as you practice.

7. Throughout your progress, you will be reaching Checkpoints that provide

feedback on how well you are doing. Try to aim for 100% mastery!
