LORA ARELLANO
Lora Arellano is an American celebrity makeup artist, entrepreneur,
instagram star and YouTube beauty vlogger.
Today I will talk about her life and how she became a successful artist and
business owner. We will also go through the main characteristics of her
brand and the reasons why she is such a great inspiration.
Growing up in Los Angeles, Lora loved drawing women's faces using bold
makeup colour combos. She started working as a freelance makeup artist but
then chose a more stable makeup counter job at Nordstrom where she met
her future business partner Dana Bomar.
They spent their lunches dreaming of their own makeup brand, until in 2012
they founded Melt Cosmetics, a brand characterised by highly pigmented, ul-
tra-matte, bold shades of lipstick that were missing from the cosmetics
world.
Thanks to their combined decade of experience in the makeup industry and
working in retail, they invested their life savings to create 5 shades that
sold out the minute they launched online in May of 2013.
Today Melt Cosmetics is one of the biggest independent brands in existence
and it keeps focusing on creating cutting edge products that are missing
from the market.
From highly pigmented lipsticks, to innovative eye shadow stacks, and high-
lighters, Melt always offers top quality cruelty free cosmetics and most of
their products are also Vegan.
While working on her brand Lora began posting photos and videos on
Instagram (@lora_arellano) and gained a huge following, making the list of
Top 10 Makeup Artist to follow on Instagram.
Her popular Halloween 2012 YouTube video — "Dead Dolly" — caught
Rihanna's eye, and she asked Lora to create her Halloween look. Rihanna
loved her "Bride of Mary Jane" look so much she asked Lora to join her
world tour.
So the story of Melt is not just a story about two young women who
created a successful business but it is about being unafraid to take the risks
involved in pursuing your dreams, and the willingness to not to be afraid to
try and create new things.
Lora built her career from nothing, she pursued her dreams and made them
come true, that’s why she is font of great inspiration for me.
