Introduction to the Problem

Problem to be addressed: For many years, obesity has been a major issue in the United

States, and its prevalence is still on the increase. Few people are aware of this widespread issue.

In addition to being characterized by excessive body fat that raises the risk of health issues,

obesity is a condition that develops when a person consumes more calories than they expend via

normal activity and exercise. Overweight and obesity are become more common in both adults

and children. The percentage of overweight or obese children and adolescents aged 5 to 19 who

live in the world grew from 4% to 18% between 1975 and 2016. (https://www.who.int/health-

topics/obesity). Obesity and overweight are associated with several risk factors for heart disease

and heart attack.

Problem Subtopic: Obesity is a chronic, misunderstood illness with issues and

repercussions that go beyond being overweight. People who battle with their weight may

experience feelings of isolation and insecurity, and they often get unwanted remarks from others.

People are unaware of the emotional and physical consequences of their words and actions.

Statistics on the rate of adult obesity in the United States may be found via the Behavioral Risk

Factors Surveillance System at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. According to

these findings, a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or above indicates obesity. BMI is more of a

screening tool than a diagnosis tool for obesity since it only considers height and weight and

disregards total quantity and distribution of fat. For instance, it doesn't explain why slim, athletic

persons tend to have more bone and muscle mass. The body mass index (BMI) criterion for

obesity may be a good predictor of health when controlling for factors such as race, ethnicity,

gender, and height.

Possible Cause and Maintaining Forces

Cause: Many disorders, including disease etiology and Cardiovascular hazards, may be

induced by being fat. One such condition is inflammatory bowel disease, although there are

others as well. An imbalance between calories consumed and energy exerted, which results in a

loss of body mass, characterizes this condition. The pathophysiology of obesity includes many

additional elements in addition to how excess body fat is produced, such as how it is absorbed.

Other elements, such as glucose, insulin, fatty acids, etc., may affect how the body regulates

hunger or food intake and aid in the development of obesity. The main factor causing sickness in

both adults and children is cardiovascular risk.

Cause: The most prevalent reasons are overeating and a lack of enough physical activity.

Extra calories will be retained as fat if they are not burned off by some kind of physical activity,

such as exercise. This does not happen all of a sudden; rather, it is the result of choices made

over the course of a lifetime about one's food and lifestyle. It's possible that eating a lot of

processed or fast food can cause you to gain weight.

Cause: The inability of the endocrine glands to create hormones to maintain energy

balance and metabolism is the root cause of obesity. Those with endocrine problems generate

less heat and use fat reserves inefficiently.

Cause: Tumors are also believed to be the cause of obesity, since some of them are

situated in areas that regulate food intake.

Why the problem persists: according to Carmur (2017), obesity has replaced infectious

illnesses as a public health hazard. The environment and contemporary lifestyles have

considerably contributed to the development of obesity: the availability of affordable fatty and

sugary meals, and the ease of access to information through devices that need less physical

exertion.

Background and Justification

Prior attempts and previously proposed solutions: obesity prevention has been

implemented to alter the eating environment and provide people with healthy lifestyle options.

The public health sector designed measures, such as nutrition labeling on fast food, to collaborate

with the food manufacturing business. Additionally, marketing promoting unhealthy meals were

limited.

Deficiencies in the solution paradigm: yet, as Chan and Woo (2010) note, food costs

have a substantial effect on consumption. In addition, they assert that the increased variety and

decrease in price of fast food have led to a return to the earlier levels of consumption. The

transportation industry's efforts to alleviate the problem by bringing services to people's front

doors rather than making them go large distances have also exacerbated the problem.

Newly Proposed Deliverable

Deliverable overview: The purpose of this research is to determine whether or not

weight restriction may reduce the probability of developing cardiovascular disease. The major

goal of the rules is to reduce the prevalence of obesity among children. Parents, schools, and

community centers all have a role to play in encouraging healthy lifestyle habits, including

proper nutrition and regular physical activity. Schools and the media may play an important role

in spreading health awareness. In order to curb consumption, fast food sellers should be highly

taxed like lifestyle enterprises. The advertising and sale of unhealthy foods should be strictly

controlled by legislation.

Importance for the student: prevention is preferable than treatment, and in this situation,

avoiding weight gain is far simpler than promoting weight reduction. For a heart-disease-free

society, the younger generation must be discouraged from getting weight.

The intended audience consists of children, adolescents, and adults.

Talks at institutions and the incorporation of nutrition into curriculums, the media, and

nutrition labels will reach the people.

Significance to the student: The purpose of the new deliverable is to lower the incidence of

heart disease by preventing the prevalence of obesity in the society. The activity seeks to alter

the attitudes and views of both young people and adults so that they will examine their lifestyle

choices in relation to obesity and make any required adjustments.

Target audience: the preventative measures will capture the behavior and way of life of

the young generation as they mature into adulthood. This will significantly lower the prevalence

of obesity among both young and old individuals.

Evaluation

Success outcome measures: the preventative measures will capture the behavior and way of life

of the young generation as they mature into adulthood. This will significantly lower the

prevalence of obesity among both young and old individuals.

Enhancement of global awareness: the intended audience is representative of the whole human

population. Consequently, if views are altered, children will be a powerful tool of change

provided they are educated well. The adults will also play an important role in serving as

lifestyle role models for the youth.

Enhancement of global perspective: Taking As a result of the project's objectives and

strategies, society will be able to take more precautions when individuals realize that the issue is

a matter of life and death. Information is presented, but never on how to shed weight or prevent

weight gain from starting at an early age. The primary objective of the project is to demonstrate

that transforming young people's attitudes and worldviews produces the desired change.

It is necessary to construct institutions and other recreational amenities. Schools and the

media should also include health education. In addition, fast food sellers should be taxed

substantially as lifestyle enterprises in an effort to curb consumption. The government should

implement strict regulations and restrictions on the marketing and promotion of harmful foods.

interact with more caution. Although information is exchanged, it has never concerned weight

loss or the prevention of early weight gain. This initiative's primary objective is to improve the

attitudes and perspectives of young people so that the desired transformation may occur.
