Orientation to College

Class Activity, Week of November 29th

There are many ways that you can advocate for yourself at the University. Here are a few:

 Speak to a professor about a concern you have

 Speak to your advisor
 Communicate with the chair of a department
 Reach out to representatives from student government
 Reach out to the Title IX office (in circumstances of discrimination that hinders your academic
experience).

One of the biggest ways that you can advocate for yourself though is to take care of yourself and be the
healthiest version of you possible.

Complete the Self Care Assessment Activity under “Content” on Blackboard.

Looking over the activity, which area of self care did you score the highest in? (Physical, Emotional,
Social, Spiritual, Professional). Which area did you score the lowest in?

What differences do you notice in yourself when you make time for some of these activities?

Are there certain areas that are especially important for you as a person?

What keeps you from taking care of yourself the way you want to? Or what is challenging about self
care for you?

What is one thing that you could do this week for you?

Once completed, email this activity to Josh (jdornbos@njcu.edu) by December 7th.

Reminder last week will be the final week we will meet as a class. Please be prepared to share for 2
minutes regarding your final Reflection #3 assignment (instructions on blackboard, you should prepare a
slide representing your goals at NJCU).
