EARTH & LIFE SCIENCE

ACTIVITY NO.4
Direction: Answer the following questions.

1.) If geological processes seem to bring risk to human safely, where then is a safe place to live? Is
there eve any?

The safest place to live is in Qatar because it is cited as the safest country by The
World Risk Report. Some of the reason for that are its sheltered geographical position
and protection from tropical cyclones. Qatar is also away from any fault lines, making
the country free of earthquake and or risky volcano activity. Most of the terrain
consists of barren plains and sand dunes. With no forests, there is no risk of forest
fires that could rage out of control. And as a wealthy, industrialized nation, Qatar also
has a well-developed infrastructure that would allow the country to recover quickly if
there ever was a catastrophe.

2.) If there were human civilizations million of years earlier, would there have been any significant
changes in the history of Earth?

Yes, there have been any significant changes in the history of Earth like the Earth’s
climate has changed many times. For example, fossils from Cretaceous period (144 to
65 million years ago show that Earth was much warmer than it is today. Fossilized
plants and animals that are normally live in warm environments have been found at
much higher latitudes than they could survive at today. For instance, breadfruit trees,
now found on tropical islands, grew as far north as Greenland. The climate has
changed many times during Earth’s history, but the changes have occurred slowly,
over thousand of years. Only since the Industrial Revolution have human activities
begun to influence climate and scientists are still working to understand what the
consequences might be.
