SOLAR ENERGY

1. The __________ hits a solar panel.

2. Material inside (usually silicon) absorbs the __________.
3. The _______________ and its atoms to get very excited and start dancing around.
4. The atoms then get hot and shed the electrons, which travel out of the panel through copper wiring.
5. We have _______________!
6. __________ changes this electricity from direct current to the alternating current we use.
7. The electricity then passes from breaker boxes to outlets and into electrical items.
8. Whatever we don't use can go back into the __________ to be used by others.

WIND ENERGY

1. The __________ spin at a slow speed — (about one revolution every three seconds).
2. A computer inside the box (at the top of the tower) controls the _______________ of the blades
to make sure they capture the most ___________ possible.
3. The blades are connected to faster spinning gears inside the box that create _______________ energy.
4. A generator converts that energy into _______________, which travels down the tower through a cable.

HYDROELECTRIC ENERGY

We do this by using the movement of the water to spin hydraulic _______________. That generates
_______________ energy, which is converted to _______________ through a generator and then sent to the
power __________. Most hydropower is generated from __________ built on rivers and streams, often where
there's a big drop in elevation so _______________ can help us out. Dams block the water's natural flow and
force it through a large pipe with the turbine and generator before releasing it back into the stream on the other
side of the dam.

Hi Brian,

How are you?

That project sounds fun! Canada has many examples of renewable energy. One of the biggest sources comes from
wind power. We have about 3000 wind turbines across the country.

Another source, which is not as popular, is solar energy. This is where the sun heats solar panels placed on
buildings, as a result they light or heat that area. The problem with this energy source is that it’s sometimes cloudy here,
which is why it is not as popular.

Good luck with your poste. Send me a picture when you are finished.

Bye!
Ling

Hi Brian,
How are you getting on? It’s really good to hear from you again.
That project sounds fun! I hope I can help you with the information I have. Malaysia has few examples of the renewable
energy such as hydroelectric energy, solar energy, biomass energy, wind energy and so on.
The oldest hydroelectric dam and power station in Malaysia is Cenderoh Power Station in Sungai Perak. Hydroelectric
comes from capturing the force of moving water that’s in our Earth’s rivers and oceans. It produces electricity through
turbine dams without damaging our planet.
Besides that, we also have the largest solar station in Negeri Sembilan, which is Amcorp Gemas. This is where the sun heats
solar panels placed on buildings, as a result they light or heat that area. The solar technology is more efficient and less
expensive. It’s pollution-free in creating electricity. It’s an amazing power of the sun.
Sorry that I have to stop now. Good luck and all the best with your project. Please write back soon and tell me all about it.
Bye for now.
