Rising to 12,388 feet (3,776 metres), Mount Fuji
is the tallest mountain in Japan and is known
for its graceful conical form. It is the country's
sacred symbol, and temples and shrines are
located around and on the volcano. Many come
to be simply catch sight of the mountain,
spellbound its size and beauty, while many
others come with the more energetic plan to
climb it.
Mountain Fuji has been considered a sacred
mountain since the 7th century. In the Shinto
religion, the emperor gave the order to destroy
its summit to release the elixir that it
contained. The smoke escaping was this elixir.

Hakone is most famous for hot springs,
traditional ryokan, rich nature,
museums, and historical sites.
Besides the famous hot springs and the
gorgeous views of Mount Fuji, there are
plenty of other activities to keep you
busy.
Hakone is one of the most popular
destinations among Japanese and
international tourists looking for a
break from Tokyo.
Owakudani crater
Owakudani is a volcanic crater formed
during the last eruption of Mount Hakone
approximately 3,000 years ago. White
smoke is rising up even now, and you can
feel the volcanic activity right before your
eyes.

A hiking trail leads from the ropeway
station to the peak of Mount Kamiyama
and continues on to Mount Komagatake.
Getting up close and personal with a crater
is possible because of the sightseeing
decks. Owakudani Ropeway is an aerial
lift located in Hakone, Kanagawa, near
Lake Ashi.
