Doug and his wife Bonnie enjoy exploring the great outdoors in their free time, including skiing and scuba
diving.
Doug’s background and experience in the classroom and the cockpit will add tremendous value and
insight to our educational portfolio. Doug will be bringing his experience to Triple Tree’s Summer Camps
this year. Space is for the camps is limited – so don’t delay! We are honored to have him on our team and
confident he will make a great addition to our Triple Tree family!

Uncle John’s Fly-In
March 24 – March 26 , 2023

There’s no better place to spend Spring Break than at Triple Tree Aerodrome! On the final
weekend of March, pilots from all over gathered at Triple Tree (SC00) to attend the 2nd Annual
Uncle John’s Fly-In.
The weekend featured all sorts of excitement including the fly-in, guest speakers, and meals
throughout the day. On Friday night, guest speaker Dale Ellis shared his experience as a Triple Tree
Volunteer and Retired Pilot – even retelling his story of coming face-to-face with a hijacker. Groups
from all over came to participate in the fly-in including the Clemson University Flight Club, Boy
Scout Troop 502, and the Roper Mountain Astronomy Club.
Pilots enjoyed dinner, camaraderie, and Triple Tree’s world-class campground! Gathering such as
these make Triple Tree the home of fun, fellowship, and hospitality!
These individuals were chosen from a vast applicant pool, and after an interview, where their resumes and career
goals stood out among their peers. These individuals will be awarded a $2,500 scholarship to pursue their
aviation and career goals.
Due to the overwhelming response to this program, the Triple Tree Aerodrome will now offer our scholarship
opportunity twice a year! Once in the Spring and once in the Fall. The Fall applications will be open on August 1,
2023, and the winners will be announced at the 2023 Young Aviators Fly-In (August 18-20, 2023).
Triple Tree is proud to be a leader in aviation scholarship opportunities for young men and women in South
Carolina. Over the past decade, Triple Tree has given away over $65,000 in scholarships making this program one
of the most extensive aviation scholarship offerings in the region.
