Isolation of Observer Controller Batteries

AHT’s are being returned from maintenance and are unable to be released to auto due to observer controller faults. A lot of the time this is due to the observer
controller batteries being discharged while under maintenance.

The observer controller batteries provides power to the observer controller in case of power loss to the AHT system. This enable the observer controller to apply
braking when the safety controller and drive controller have both lost power. If the batteries have low voltage, this detected by the controller and will not allow the truck
to drive in auto mode.

When the main truck isolator is switched off, the batteries are constantly providing power to the controller during maintenance, causing the discharge. Due to low
availability of batteries, sometimes running the truck is required to re charge the batteries which causes extra unnecessary down time. This can be from 0.5hrs to 2hrs
as we have recently seen.

To alleviate this issue, Komatsu have an isolator attached to the battery box for the observer controller batteries. If a truck is required to be down for an extended
period of time of more than 0.5hrs, it is recommended to isolate the controller batteries to prevent discharge. If the isolator is not switched on before releasing the
truck, this will also not allow the truck go into auto mode, therefore will need to be checked before releasing truck to production.

The observer controller batteries and isolator are located behind the operator cab. The older style trucks have the isolator on the RHS and the new style trucks have the
isolator on the LHS as pictured.
