Semi Detailed Lesson Plan in Algebra Jennifer Coballes
Region 02
Department of Education
I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to,
A. discover word through number game;
B. define evaluating algebraic expression;
C. solve problems regarding algebraic expressions magic square activity; and
D. reflect on the evaluation that they’ve made through 1 minute challenge.
III. Procedure
A. Daily Routine
Checking of attendance
Classroom management
Greetings
B. Motivation
“Number Game”
The teacher explains the mechanics of the game through powerpoint presentation
Mechanics:
o There will be numbers to be flashed on the screen.
o Each number corresponds to the letters in the alphabet.
o The group who will raise their answer first will get the highest point (10pts.), and
the rest will be 5pts.
Example:
13-1-20-8-5-13-1-20-9-3-19
MATHEMATICS
C. Presentation
The teacher will ask the students the words that they have decoded in their activity
D. Discussion
1. Define evaluating algebraic expression
2. The teacher gives the rules in evaluating algebraic expression
3. The teacher will give some examples on how to evaluate algebraic expression.
To be solved by the teacher:
o Evaluate 6x + 3, when x = 1
Solution:
6x + 3
6(1) + 3
6+3
9
4a – 2b + 4
4(2) + 2(4) - 4
8+8-4
16 - 4
12
E. Application
The teacher will give some drills to the students to be solved on the board
Evaluate 2x² - 6x + 1, when x = 3.
Solution.
2(3)² - 6(3) + 1
2 (9) – 18 + 1
18 – 18 + 1
0+1
1
Evaluate 8x + 7 when x = 0.
8x + 7 = 8(0) + 7
=0+7
=7
IV. Generalization
“Remember Me”
The teacher presents the folders to the students.
Volunteer students will proceed in front and pick a folder that they want.
Each of the students will open the folder and answer the question inside it.
V. Values Integration
“Magic Word”
The teacher will present some numbers on the screen and the students should add the numbers
and decode the word based on the numbers presented.
12+15+22+5+…15+6+…7+15+4=?
LOVE OF GOD=101%
The teacher will ask some questions regarding the activity.
VI. Evaluation
Direction: Evaluate the following algebraic expressions in the table, when a = 2, b = 5, and c = 7. Then
get the sum of its vertical, horizontal and diagonal
VII. Assignment
Direction: Evaluate the following expressions. (5pts. each)
ac−bc
1. Evaluate , when a=3, b=2 and c=4
a+b+ c
2. Evaluate x² + 6y – 1, when x=3 and y=1
p (q−3)
3. Evaluate , when p=5, q=10 and r=8
q+ p−r
