Walter Elias Disney was born on December 5, 1901, in Chicago.

Son of Elias and Flora

Disney, he didn’t have much money, because her father was a carpenter. And also, Elias
hated Walt.

In 1906, Walt discovered nature and animals, where his interest in drawing was born.

He enrolled at the Kansas City Art Institute, where he learned the first notions of drawing
technique.

He met Ub Iwerks in Pesmen-Rubin Commercial Art Studio a young man his own age who
was exceptionally gifted at drawing and made a friendship. They set up their own company,
Iwerks-Disney Commercial Artists. The company broke down one month after its creation.

Disney borrowed a camera and set up a very modest studio in the garage of his house, in
which, with the help of Iwerks and working at night, they produced their first animated film.

Walt up his own company again with his brother Roy as a partner. The Disney Brothers
Studio. On July 13, 1925, Disney married Lillian Bounds, with whom he had two daughters:
Diane Marie, born December 18, 1933, and Sharon Mae, who was adopted in 1936.

1926, the two brothers changed the name of their company, which was renamed Walt
Disney Studio.
Disney conceived Mortimer, a little mouse later renamed Mickey. Disney made the little
mouse and his girlfriend, Minnie in the first 3 movies.

Disney had a serious health crisis that forced him, at the end of 1931 and when the Mickey
Mouse club already had a million members, to take a long vacation with his wife.

1932 was the first of the Oscars he would receive during his career
1933, They created: The Three Little Pigs. Unintentionally, his famous song Who's Afraid of
the Big Bad Wolf? it became a song of hope for millions of Americans trying not to be
devoured in real life by the Great Depression.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) showed not only that Disney and his team were
animation virtuosos, but that cartoons could be a whole film genre.

1940 they created Fantasia. In it, cartoonists and animators combined cartoon characters
with the music of Stravinsky, Dukas, Beethoven, Ravel, Bach, and Tchaikovsky. But, It didn't
work.
Walt started making new movies and thanks to his movies, he received enough money to
open Disneyland.
Disneyland, opened on July 17, 1955, in Anaheim, California. This park, with an extension of
120 hectares, cost 17 million dollars, and Main Street USA, its main street where hundreds
of actors dressed as characters walked, perfectly recreated the main street of Marceline, the
town where she lived her childhood, Disney.

He died on December 15, 1966 in Los Angeles, California, a victim of lung cancer.
Walt Disney is known as the creator of the Disney Factory: the 'Factory of dreams'.

He is also recognized for having been a Transformational Leader:

Influential: earning the admiration and respect of people in his company, who identified with
him and tried to imitate him.
Motivating: formulating an attractive vision of the future for the organization and for its
employees, which gave meaning to the work of each one.
Stimulator: encouraging innovation and creativity in its collaborators
Thoughtful: paying attention to your team members' individual needs for achievement and
growth by acting as a mentor or coach

I would like to add that there is another important aspect of Walt Disney's leadership style
that today's leaders should be emulating: the ability to communicate a vision effectively and
passionately.

Walt understood that he could never succeed alone and that he needed to inspire and
motivate his team to be as passionate about a project as he was. He had mastered the art of
communicating his vision of the future to his team, and that's what really made him a great
leader.

And now answering the question, I chose Walt because it seems incredible to me that going
from selling newspapers, to having the greatest exponent of children's entertainment. And
he seems to me to be a clear example of a leader, he motivated the team and
communicated his vision, that's why I chose him, besides the fact that I've been watching
Disney movies since I was 4 years old.

Thanks to the fact that he created Snow White and the 7 Dwarfs, he CHANGED
entertainment, proving that animation was not only used to make short films but also that
animation was an entire genre of entertainment.

He influenced children and adults through his films, teaching them with each film, and
changing the mentality of the people who saw them. And it's incredible how with something
as innocent as a children's movie, you can teach it and change people's mentality. He
changed lives with songs, like who’s afraid of the big bad wolf? which saved many people
from depression, and also Let It Go from Frozen, which saved lives from suicide.

And most importantly, Walt Disney taught us that we can achieve our dreams, only if we
propose it. He grew up in a childhood full of poverty and hatred of his father, but he did not
give up and created the greatest exponent of children's entertainment. Many people built on
it and changed the world in some way.
