Answer all 10 the questions in point form. The numbers in bracket are the points assigned for each
question and passing mark is 75 pct. A repeat of the test will have to be taken when 75 pct mark is not achieved

1.The liquid temperature in the tank that contains 8.5 meters innage showed a difference of more than 1
Deg C between the levels taken, explain the possible reasons for this (10 marks)

Answer: Cargo not homogenous or heating in progress.

2. Explain the steps to perform when Master insists that vessel UTI shall be used for the measurements of loaded
quantity when our UTI is compatible. State the various limits for linear and temperature differences (10 marks)

Answer: Check for physical damage and battery strength, Check linear measurement graduation do not exceed +/-
2mm for the first 5 meter and that temperature readings do not differ more then 0.3 meter Celsius when
compared with our equipment.

3. The in-transit comparison showed a deviation of 0.5 pct differences by volume and the increase of FW was
determined to be the cause. How will you investigate this increase? (10 marks)

Answer: It might happened seapage in between the ballast tank and cargo tanks, It also possible vessel done some
illegal transfer during the voyage, use FW replace cargo on board.

4. State the steps you will take when the Bill of Lading at loading port was generated basing on the 1950 VCF tables.
(10 marks)

Answer: We need to backward calculate the quantity because we are using standard 2004 VCF Table.

5. What is the error limits for the UTI for annual calibration and the error limits for monthly and Prior use verification.
(10 marks)

Answer: Check linear measurement graduation do no exceed +/- 2mm for the first 5 meter and the temperature
readings do not differ more then 0.3 degree celcius when compared with our equipment for annual calibration.
Check for physical damage and battery strength for monthly verifications.

5. You are given instructions to draw after loading sample and to place on board Multiple tank composite
sample and the samples can only be drawn under Closed System sampling. State the steps that you will carry out
to place the samples on board. (10 points)

Answer: I have to know the ullage and gross observed volume for each tank,Then I use the ullage to get the each
tank UML sample level. After sample UML for all tanks, I will give the gross observed volume for each tank to the
lab to bulk accordingly. If I have to bulk the composite sample myself onboard after loading, it might not be
accurate.

7.Show your method to compute the UML level for temperature and sample in tank liquid level is 12 meters and RH
is 18 meters. (10 marks)

Answer: If the liquid level is 12 meter RH is 18 meter, Ullage = 18 – 12 = 6 meter. I will usethe cargo level divide 4,
so I get 3 meter for each gratitude level for temperature. Upper level is lower then 3 meter plus 6 meter (ullage),
middle level is lower down 2x3 meter plus 6 meter (ullage)and lower level is lower down 3x3 meter plus 6 meter
(ullage) to get the UML temperature. For the samples upper is 1/6 x 12 meter + 6 meter = 8 meter, mddle is 3/6 x
12 meter + 6 meter = 12 meter, Lower is 5/6 x 12 meter + 6 meter = 16 meter bottom is 6/6 x 12 meter +6 meter =
18 meter.

8. How do you check for the presence of solidified ROB in a cargo tank (10 marks)

Answer: If the sounding equipment, sounding from the aft point and cannot touch the bottom as per reference
height, It means have solidified ROB in cargo tanks.

9. State the various methods to determine Line Fill condition of shore pipeline (10 marks)

Answer: Line will have solid sound when I knock it, Checking for vacuum reading and line pressure reading.

10. What the possible scenarios that can cause the measured reference height and the Official reference height
of the vessel tanks to have a difference of more than 5 mm (10 marks)

Answer: It might have a sludge or solidified cargo stuck direct under the ullage point, It is also possible the vessel
did not calibrate and send for dry dock for quite sometimes.
