Dear Mayor Torres:
As you know, on March 22, 2023, a tornado severely damaged our Montebello facility
‘This unforeseeable natural disaster and physical calamity will have our facility closed for the
foreseeable future and may result in the facility's permanent closure. At a minimum we
anticipate the facility will be closed for at least six months
Pursuant to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, The Shyft Group
GTB, LLC hereby notifies you of its intent to conduct a plant closing at its facility located at 1130
S. Vail Avenue, Montebello, California 90640-6021 ("the Facility’). At this time, the closure of
the entire plant is expected to be permanent.
Layoffs are expected to begin on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 and will be completed on
that date. This separation is now expected to be permanent. There are no bumping rights and
there is no union representing the affected employees
This information is based on the best information currently available to us but may
‘change due to subsequent events. The Company will provide employees with their regular pay
and benefits from today through May 31, 2023, or the employee notifies the company that they
are voluntarily terminating their employment to take another position, whichever first occurs. A
list of job titles of the positions to be affected, and the number of affected employees in each job
classification is attached.
This notice is being provided pursuant to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining
Notification Act (WARN), 29 U.S.C. §§ 2101-2109 and California Labor Code §§ 1400-1408.
This notice is not intended and should not be construed as an admission that this notice is
required at any particular facility or to any particular employee. All rights and defenses pursuant
to the WARN Act, Labor Code and other laws are specifically reserved
