ELECTIVE
Topic #2 Reflection

1. Why do you think multi-grade teaching can be a positive

experience?

I think it has a positive impact in experiencing multi-grade teaching because they

offer better opportunities for learning that contribute success to the learners.
Multigrade classes need to be managed appropriately to ensure that students learn
well in their classroom stay. Like other researches, the study found
that collaborative learning in teaching multigrade classes is effective. The
benefits of multi-age classrooms are that they put learning at the center, both
socially and academically. The older students in the class help teach the younger
students by modeling more sophisticated, complex problem solving and critical
thinking.

2. What are some possible causes of teachers’ resistance to multi-

grade teaching?
Teachers not only face the difficulties of dealing with a multigrade organized class,
but also other constraints such as lack of resources, infrequent supervision, and
poor living conditions. These conditions also make teachers resistant to the idea of
multigrade teaching and reduce their enthusiasm for the task.

3. How is your learning relevant or useful to you as would be

teacher?

As a future teacher, I Simply put and provides relevance for a student, the teacher
conveys intentions to the student by tapping into that student's cognitive need
to make sense of the world. I’ am willing learn best by studying, doing, and
reflecting; by collaborating with other teachers; by looking closely at students and
their work; and by sharing what they see.

4. How can we overcome some challenges in multi-grade teaching

and learning?
We can overcome some challenges in multi-grade teaching and learning by adopting
a Multigrade approach, access to education can be increased and teacher
deployment can be more effective. Teaching in the Multigrade classroom requires a
sound knowledge of curriculum, strategies for providing student centered and
group learning, and a different approach to assessment and evaluation. Adapt the
educational system to reflect its multicultural and multilingual community.
Acknowledge the unique ways that minority families are involved in their children's
education. Consider the cultural and linguistic challenges families face to
communicate with you and the school. It is also important to invest in teacher’s
training, curriculum development, and preparation of learning materials
appropriate for multi-grade classes to improve education specially in underserved
and remote areas.

5. “From the readings/research on the, Advantages and

disadvantages of Multi-aged Classroom   Setting. I realized
that……”

Based on my understanding about the reading/research on the advantages and

disadvantages of multi- aged classroom setting is, I realized that being multi-grade teacher
is not an easy job, now that I read all about this article and search some information about
on this topic, I realized that being multi-grade teacher is more challenging and tough job.
You have to be more devoted and patiently gain knowledge to be able to give your student
a high and quality education despite of the difficulties to fit the multi-age programs neatly
into the traditional Organization. And also, different challenges facing in multigrade
education. Multigrade teaching can bring positive experiences. There are so many
advantages to using multigrade teaching; however, teachers may wonder why these
strategies could not be implemented by teachers in their classrooms. It is good to
remember that there are barriers that hinder the success in implementing the multigrade
teaching. Education provides stability in life, and it's something that no one can ever take
away from you. The main function of the multigrade teacher is to teach students by
imparting knowledge not just follow a curriculum. Teacher must be able to develop
skills and inculcate desirable values and attitudes among pupils.
