I had never seen treasure. But like they say, there is a first time for everything. Well, it’s true
and today I would like to tell you a story entitled ‘The Secret’. Let’s see what had happened
to the farmer, his wife and the king.

Once a farmer found a pot of gold coins while ploughing his field. He had never seen
so much treasure so he decided to take it home before anybody else saw it.
‘But that won’t be a good idea!’ he thought. He was afraid that his talkative wife
might spread the news around. ‘Once others come to know about it, they’ll be after me!’ He
was in a dilemma. He could neither leave the treasure there nor take it home.
So he planned to test his wife. He buried the pot of coins again and went home. As
soon as he saw his wife, he said, ‘Did you hear this? The king has a tortoise inside his belly?
Please keep it a secret.’
‘Of course, dear,’ his wife nodded.
 That afternoon as the farmer was toking a nap, his wife went to the neighbours and
spread the news.
The news finally reached the palace. The king was upset and ordered his men to find
out who had been spreading the rumour. The investigation led to the farmer and the king sent
his guards to bring him.
‘Speak up!’ the king ordered. ‘Why did you spread the rumour?’
‘I didn’t Your Majesty,’ the farmer replied softly. ‘It was my wife who did it. I
wanted to test whether she could keep a secret.’
‘What secret?’ asked the king.
‘That I’ve found a pot of gold coins,’ answered the farmer.
‘Where?’ the king asked again.
The farmer took the king to the field and showed him the treasure.
‘You deserve to keep this pot of gold for speaking the truth, dear farmer,’ said the
king.
The farmer was happy to hear that. And there was no need to keep it a secret.
