MENDELIAN PATTERN OF INHERITANCE

MONOHYBRID:

1. Cystic fibrosis is a recessive genetic disorder. Ben is homozygous dominant (AA) and Mary is a
carrier (Aa) of cystic fibrosis. Use a Punnett square to predict the probability that one of their
children will have cystic fibrosis. Show all work and box your final answer.

2. Marc has brown eyes, while Jenny has blue. If brown eyes (B) are known to be dominant, and
blue eyes (b) are recessive, use a Punnett square to predict their offspring. Assume Marc doesn’t
carry a recessive allele.

DIHYBRID:

1. In horses, the coat color black is dominant (D) over chestnut (d). The trotting gait is dominant (A)
over the pacing gait (a). If a homozygous black pacer is mated to a homozygous chestnut,
heterozygous trotter, what will be the ratios for the genotype and phenotype of the F1 generation?

MULTIPLE ALLELES:

1. One parent has Type A Blood. The other parent has type B blood. What are their genotypes if they
produce many children whose blood types are the following: (Prove your answer by drawing its
Punnett square)

a. All AB
b. ½ AB and ½ B
c. ¼ O

COMPLETE AND INCOMPLETE DOMINANCE:

1. In some chickens, the gene for feather color is controlled by co-dominance. The allele for black is
(A) and the allele for white is (B). The heterozygous phenotype is known as erminette.

a. What is the genotype of black chickens? ___________

b. What is the genotype of white chickens? ___________
c. What is the genotype of erminette chickens? ____________

2. If two erminette chickens were crossed, what is the probability that: (Prove your answer)
a. They would have a black chick __________
b. They would have a white chick __________

3. In snapdragons, flower color is controlled by incomplete dominance. The two alleles are red (A)
and white (B). The heterozygous genotype is expressed as pink.
a. What is the phenotype of a plant with genotype AA? ___________
b. What is the phenotype of a plant with genotype BB? ___________
c. What is the phenotype of a plant with genotype AB? ___________

4. What cross will produce the all pink-flowered plants? Show a Punnett square to support your
answer.
