Principle for teaching – syllabus (info about a course)

- Is it permanent? (Tentative = subject to change)

1. What to teach – Goal (bigger and broader) / objective (smaller and specific)

2. Grading – how it’s done (assignment – percentage of each)

Glazy eyes – break and change mode

Discussion

1. How would you make/write a syllabus?

- Goals, objectives … destination

- Assessments (situation … depending on who you teach)

- Needs assessment (Know what students need) … all students are at different level
(proficiency, background, motivation, strength/weakness) … fill up a background paper
(language level, experience with Eng., traveled/lived)

- schedule (daily, weekly, monthly semester plan)

- Grading component (prepare rubric)

- Materials / books / resources / technology

Important to know as a teacher:

- Goals

- Teacher has to know themselves.

- Student

- How … how to get the students reach the goals.

2. World English – what do you think about it?

- English belongs to the world.

- Which variety/form is the perfect form? … A (English should stay close to its original form
– pronunciation/grammar) vs B (any varieties are OK as long as
intelligible/comprehensive)
