Personal Goals:
• Gestural Needs and Challenges
o Tempo Changes (120, 60, & 104bpm)
o Accelerando (mm. 132) and Decellerando’s (mm. 88, 122)
o Multiple Meter Changes (4/4, 2/4, 3/4)
o Fermatas (mm. 84 & 123)
o Cues (all over the place)
o Style Changes (Legato, bouncy, articulated).
• Conducting Goals
o Try to show something every measure
o Become better at off-beat cues and fermatas (especially the solos)
o Show the styles more
o Conduct to the section needed
o Look at multiple people in a rehearsal while cuing
• Leadership Goals
o Talking less
o Being more clear
o Try out new exercises with the group
o Communicate well and create a positive and productive environment

o This could go on forever because each instrument has its challenges but:
▪ Technical: 16th note runs, accents, dotted 8ths and 16th, off beat entrances, triplets
at this tempo, solos)
▪ Meter changes (at mm. 15, 37, 50, 76, 89, 124, 147, & 173)
▪ Tempo Changes (at mm. 85, 89, 132?, 136)
▪ Key Changes (at mm. 89 &147)
▪ Accelerando (mm. 132) and Decellerando’s (mm. 88, 122)
▪ Dynamic contrast
• Musical/Technical Goals
o Keep Articulation up
o Keep tempo up
o Dynamic contrast (a lot of FF to sub p.)
o Contrast of styles between sections
New Musical Terms to Know
• Fanfare: a short ceremonial tune
• Intermezzo: a short connecting instrumental movement in an opera or other musical work
• Rubato: temporary disregarding of strict tempo to allow an expressive quickening or slackening
• Stringendo: with increasing speed

a. Cuing the Solo parts and other instruments that come in (like the tbn at m. 17)
b. 4/4 pattern
c. More staccato pattern for the hits.
2. Conducting Goals
a. Cue all the parts when needed (m. 17, 25, 30, 31, 33, 35, 37, 39)
b. Keep my 4-pattern going without stopping
c. Be able to flip pages easier
3. Podium/Leadership Goals
a. Do not talk a lot
b. Have better feedback
