LESSON 3: Perform Mensuration and Calculations

Guest Cycle
One of the most important skills of a front office clerk is knowing how to calculate the arrival
and departure of guests. There are 4 stages associated with the hotel guest cycle:

A. Pre-arrival- a stage where the guest chooses a hotel to stay, considering the price of the
rooms, the location, and the experience.
B. Arrival- defined as the time when the guest arrives and checks in at the hotel. Upon arrival,
the guest may interact with the doorman, the front desk clerk/officer, and the bellboy.
C. Occupancy– refers to guests occupying the rooms identified on a specified period.
D. Departure- the time when the guest checks out of the hotel.

Hotels’ standard check-in time is in the afternoon and check-out is before noon. So when you
arrive at 10:00 am, earlier than the said standard time, you have to wait until 1:00 pm for
checking in.
For example, you booked for 3 days and 2 nights in Starla Hotel.
