BLOOMING IN THE DARK

Growing up, my life was far from what I had hoped it would be. My father abandoned me when I
was just a little girl, leaving me alone with my strict mother. She did her best to provide for me, but
her work schedule left her with little time to spend with me. As a result, I spent a lot of time with
my grandparents, who became my main source of support and guidance.

Despite my mother's strict parenting, I still found myself in situations of violence. It was a tough
environment for a young child to navigate, and I struggled to make sense of it all. I remember feeling
scared and alone, not knowing who to turn to for help.

Thankfully, my grandparents, uncles and aunties were always there for me. They were my safe
haven, my confidants, and my support system. They listened to me when I needed to talk, offered
advice when I was struggling, and never once judged me for the things I was going through.

Despite their unwavering love and support, I still felt the need for professional help. At just five
years old, I began therapy, and it has been a consistent part of my life ever since. It has been a long
and challenging journey, but I am grateful for the progress I have made.

Growing up, I didn't have many friends. I was often teased and bullied by my peers, and I struggled
to find my place in the world. But there was one thing that always fascinated me: medicine. I was
drawn to the idea of helping people, of making a difference in the world, and of using science to
improve people's lives.

As I got older, my interest in medicine grew stronger. I threw myself into my studies, determined to
make something of myself despite my difficult upbringing. I worked hard, and eventually, my hard
work paid off. I earned a scholarship to attend medical school, and it was a dream come true.

Looking back on my life, I can see how all of the difficult moments and challenges I faced helped
shape me into the person I am today. My upbringing was far from perfect, but it taught me
resilience, determination, and the importance of seeking help when I needed it.

Now, I am grateful for the opportunity to help others. I know what it's like to feel scared and alone,
and I want to be the person that my patients can turn to for support and guidance. My difficult
upbringing has given me a unique perspective on life, and I wouldn't be where I am today without
it.
